Pho3nix Welcomes Professional Cyclist to The Team
February 20, 2023
/ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The Pho3nix Foundation today announces Australian professional cyclist Freddy Ovett as the latest member of its Pho3nix Team.
As a sport nonprofit committed to engaging and inspiring children through sport, the Pho3nix Foundation appoints as its ambassadors athletes with a shared commitment to reaching the pinnacle of their sporting careers, inspiring the youth and generations after to get active in sport and chase their dreams.
The 2022 UCI esport vice world champion Ovett joins an elite squad of champions including Olympic medalists Alistair Brownlee, Jonathan Brownlee, Vincent Luis, and Keegan Palmer.
Once a promising collegiate middle-distance track runner treading in the footsteps of his father, multiple Olympic gold medalist Steve Ovett, an injury led him to cycle for rehab and opened doors to a cycling career. Ovett has since ridden for UCI Continental and WorldTour teams including the BMC Racing Team and Israel Cycling Academy before signing with L39ION of Los Angeles. Now embarking on a pursuit of gravel and esport cycling titles, he aims to give back to the sporting community and pay forward to future athletes.
Ovett says, “I have looked up to all of the associated athletes since I was a young athlete and now to be alongside them and promoting top-level professional sports globally is just surreal. I have loved what the Pho3nix Foundation has achieved with Sub7 and Sub8 and the various Future camps around the world highlighting some untapped top talent in an array of sports. As a privateer athlete I now have the ability to choose my own pathways; being able to give back is something that I’ve made a clear objective for myself for the remainder of my career. Pho3nix allows me the unique opportunity to do just that – to give back and in the process help discover the next cycling superstar! I am a Pho3nix!”
