P3R Named One of Pittsburgh’s 2020 Best Places to Work

December 4, 2020

During a year of change, the P3R team inspired more than 28,500 runners to participate in 10 virtual events

PITTSBURGH (December 4, 2020) – P3R, the engine behind Pittsburgh’s greatest races – including the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon – was named one of Pittsburgh’s 2020 Best Places to Work by the Pittsburgh Business Times. In addition to Pittsburgh’s annual marathon weekend, P3R also runs a variety of other high-quality races, events, and health and fitness programs throughout the Pittsburgh region.

P3R employs 25full-time team members, several part-time employees, and multiple interns. Three of P3R’s events were nominated for and won the 2020 BibRave’s top 100 awards, including the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon for Top Marathons, the GAP Relay presented by UPMC Healthy plan for Best Relay Experience and the Fleet Feet Liberty Mile for Best 10 Miles or Less.

“2020 was the year no one expected. We changed the way we parent and teach our children. We changed the way we work. We changed how we attend events, and along with that change, our team met the challenge and managed more than 10 events virtually,” said Troy Schooley, P3R CEO. “Throughout the year, we kept our mission to inspire any and all to move with us at the forefront of our minds and as the motivation behind our work.”

While all of P3R’s events in 2020 were virtual, more than 28,500 runners continued to move with P3R and participated in its 10 events throughout the year, cumulatively running almost 200,000 miles. Click here to see P3R’s major accomplishments for the year.

“Since I completed the first-ever P3R Challenge last year, I felt like I HAD to do it again this year, even if it was virtual. I love a good challenge. And let’s be real, I do it for the medals,” said participant Stephanie Walters. “I cannot thank P3R enough for all that they did to make these races possible and memorable, even when they looked a little different.”

New this year, the youth programming team at P3R launched 4RUN2 Varsity, a program aimed at providing training resources and opportunities for middle and high school students. The team also worked on more than 50 videos and activities as a part of the Workouts of STEEL program to help keep families active and healthy while at home.

“With how this year evolved, we were excited to incorporate new ways to engage the kids,” said Youth Programming Director Leslie Turis. “We know how important it is to get the younger generation and their families moving, so re-imagining our efforts to best fit their needs helped inspire us throughout the year.”

The P3R team attended the Pittsburgh Business Times 2020 Best Places to Work Awards eventvirtually on Thursday, December 3, to represent the organization and accept the honor. The Best Places to Work in Western Pennsylvania awards were determined by employee surveys prior to the luncheon.

P3R’s CEO Troy Schooley is available for interviews to discuss how P3R has innovated throughout this year to keep local communities moving amidst the pandemic.
