P3R Awards $10,000 in Grants to Pittsburgh Fitness Studios as Part of the MOVE Local Series

January 14, 2021

The MOVE Local Series offers free virtual cross-training workouts for runners of steel

PITTSBURGH (January 14, 2021) – This past weekend, P3R kicked off its brand new 10-week MOVE Local Series, partnering with 10 local fitness studios to bring free cross-training workouts to the running community. The series kicked off with a virtual workout class taught by Pure Barre Fox Chapel that was available to all runners of steel for free on YouTube.

The MOVE Local Series will feature partnerships with local studios, including, but not limited to SHAPE Training, Global Human Performance, MECKA Fitness, The Bar Method Wexford, California Cycle Path, Amazing Yoga, and ASCEND Pittsburgh. Workout videos will be available every Sunday at 10 a.m.

“Partnering with local fitness studios is an exciting way to bring a variety of movements to our running community,” said Vice President of Partnerships and Runner Experience, Caroline Fitzgerald. “We kicked off training for the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon this past weekend, coinciding perfectly with cross-training workouts to benefit runners’ training every Sunday for the next nine weeks.”

To help slow the spread of COVID-19, these fitness studios have adjusted their businesses throughout the past year and offered virtual classes for their students to help keep our region fit and healthy. Each of these studios will share one of their virtual workouts for P3R to highlight with each weekly video on YouTube.

MECKA Fitness is the next workout studio to be featured in the 10-week series with its M/FLEX class. This class combines Vinyasa flow yoga with strength and conditioning and will be available this Sunday at 10 a.m.

“We are thrilled to partner with P3R on the MOVE Local Series,” said CEO and Founder of MECKA Fitness, Kevin Beamon. “Not only will this grant help us continue inspiring movement in our studio’s community, but it will provide new ways to move for the running community. The timing could not be better as we are opening our STRIP District location on Smallman this month.”

“We know this year has been hard on families and businesses all around,” said P3R CEO Troy Schooley. “We wanted to partner with local businesses that have the same goal we do at P3R: to keep people moving.”

Runners can register for the 2021 DICK’S Sporting Goods Weekend of Events scheduled for April 30 – May 2 here.
