One Hundred Launches Global Candidate Event Program
April 15, 2026

(London) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The One Hundred World Championship has today announced the launch of its Candidate Event Program, a new pathway for races aspiring to become part of the global series.
As trail running continues to grow rapidly around the world, the program introduces a structured framework to ensure that events joining the One Hundred ecosystem meet the operational, safety, and athlete experience standards required of a World Championship-level series.
The Candidate Event Program creates a formal assessment period in which events demonstrate their readiness across all aspects of race delivery. Candidate races will be evaluated through the One Hundred Candidate Event Scorecard, a standards-based framework that reviews areas including safety and medical planning, course design and integrity, race operations, athlete experience, communications, brand presentation, and environmental stewardship.
The program positions One Hundred as a standards-led leader within the global trail running industry, introducing governance and quality frameworks more commonly seen in major international sports properties.
“Trail running is growing incredibly quickly, but with that growth comes a responsibility to protect the quality and integrity of the sport,” said One Hundred Chairman, João Andrade . “The Candidate Event Program ensures that events joining the One Hundred World Championship demonstrate the operational maturity, safety standards, and athlete-first philosophy expected of a global championship series.”
Candidate Events will be publicly recognised as Official Candidate Events of the One Hundred World Championship during the evaluation period, but will not be official One Hundred World Championship events. The Candidate Event designation signals that the event is on the pathway toward potential series inclusion, while maintaining a clear distinction from existing One Hundred events.
Progression into the One Hundred World Championship is not automatic for Candidate Events, which must demonstrate strong performance against the assessment framework and align with the long-term development of the global race calendar.
For athletes, the Candidate Event Program strengthens the credibility of the One Hundred ecosystem by ensuring that races connected to the World Championship meet consistent global standards while still celebrating the unique landscapes and communities that make trail running special. For race organisers, it offers a clear pathway toward the Series, supported by a structured framework designed to help events deliver world-class trail racing.
By introducing the Candidate Event Program, One Hundred is strengthening its position as the global reference point for high-quality trail races, while creating a transparent and merit-based pathway for the next generation of iconic events.
The first four Candidate Events will be announced shortly. More information about the program is available at www.onehundredtrail.com
