Ombraz Transitions to 100% Made-in-Italy Production

August 12, 2025

Armless sunglasses now produced in a family-owned, solar-powered facility, furthering their Carbon Negative Mission

Bellevue, WA (August 12, 2025) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ —Ombraz, (ombra n. Shade in Italian), the award-winning outdoor eyewear brand behind the original armless sunglasses, has officially moved all production out of Asia and into a single, family-owned workshop in Northern Italy. The entire Ombraz Armless Collection is now 100% handmade in Italy.

Ombraz has come a long way since hand-sewing the first run of Ombraz in their barn HQ back in 2018. This transition is 100% aligned with their most mission-critical core values, and they are deeply proud to elevate the craftsmanship and integrity of their product and brand.

A storied Italian workshop rooted in craftsmanship and innovation, their new partner ascended from a small lens assembly shop in the ’60s to one of the world’s most respected eyewear producers.

This transition brings every step of manufacturing under one consciously operated roof – a major milestone in Ombraz’s net-benefit journey. Closed-loop systems are the backbone of their new production, which runs entirely on solar energy and features state-of-the-art electric injection molding machines that dramatically reduce oil use. Every drop of water used in production is captured and recirculated, upholding a multigenerational legacy of performance and artisan production.

Just five miles from their Italian Zeiss lens facility, the new production ecosystem eliminates long-haul shipping from Asia, drastically reducing transport-related emissions. Their packaging is now sourced in Europe, every style is hand-painted, hand-assembled, and shipped from Italy to their new fulfillment center, completing a tightly integrated, low-impact European supply chain. Italian production also provides Ombraz with a bit of insulation against the current volatility of global tariffs and trade policies.

All Italian-made pairs are engraved with ‘MADE IN ITALY’ on the right zip-clip, the rectangular piece where the cord meets the frame.

This move bolsters Ombraz’s Net-Benefit Impact goals. Through an independent GreenTicket carbon audit, the brand’s 1,713X Net-Benefit Impact was verified, providing a data-driven roadmap for achieving deeper emissions reductions.

Ombraz continues to plant 20 mangrove trees for every pair sold, ensuring that every purchase helps restore ecosystems and offset carbon. The result is a product that is not just carbon neutral, but 1,713X carbon negative.

About Ombraz Sunglasses

Ombraz (ombra. n. shade in Italian). Ombraz armless sunglasses solve problems. Normal sunglasses break, fall off, pinch your head, and are difficult to store. By replacing arms with a built-in cord, Ombraz don’t break, won’t fall off, and pack flat. People are inherently skeptical – thinking they must look weird or feel like goggles strapped into your eye sockets – but they work, really damn well. When worn correctly, Ombraz are more comfortable than ordinary sunglasses. Since launching in 2019, Ombraz has won 70 ‘Best Of’ outdoor gear awards. For every pair sold, Ombraz plants 20 mangrove trees, sequestering 1,713 times more carbon than it takes to produce and deliver each pair.
