Nuun Hydration Announces New Partnership with Non-Profit &Mother

July 31, 2020

The sale of new merchandise from Nuun Hydration will benefit Olympian Alysia Montaño’s new non-profit &Mother in their mission to support women in the pursuit of career and motherhood.

July 31, 2020 SEATTLE – Yesterday Nuun Hydration announced the formal partnership between their brand and the new non-profit “&Mother” founded by Olympic Medalist Alysia Montaño. The profit of select merchandise available on Nuun’s website will benefit the organization in their mission to break down the barriers limiting a woman’s choice to pursue and thrive in both career and motherhood.

Nuun has a long history of empowering movement and opportunity for people of all races and genders. After sponsoring a record number of female athletes in 2019 and announcing the addition of pregnancy protections to their sponsorship contracts, Nuun publicly called on other athletic companies to alter their industry-standard contracts and do the same. This amendment was inspired by the experience of Alysia Montaño and many other female athletes who had their sponsorship contracts canceled or altered when they became pregnant. Alysia Montaño wrote about her experience, sparking the #DreamMaternity movement, in a piece for The New York Times.

In the midst of the conversation around gender equality advocacy, Nuun set out to build a platform where women in sport could connect through their shared love for movement while supporting one another’s successes and struggles in pursuit of individual goals. The online community, Nuuness, was the culmination of this effort and the first Nuuness Retreat was held in January of 2020 with Alysia Montaño as a special guest and panelist.

Now, Alysia Montaño has taken her advocacy for women’s empowerment up another level with the creation of &Mother, a non-profit aimed at taking the #DreamMaternity vision and making it a reality, both for women in sport and women in all other lines of work. She shared her thoughts behind the collaboration with Nuun, saying “In the development of &Mother it was important to ensure we create visibility that it is possible to choose a career track and motherhood, without the second one prohibiting the growth of one’s career. When thinking about partnerships we considered brands that are already amplifying the voices of women. Nuun came to mind because of Nuuness, an initiative that overlaps &Mother’s mission”

Nuun CEO Kevin Rutherford said of the partnership “When Alysia approached us about &Mother I knew right away that we wanted to be involved. Gender equity has always been important to us and &Mother’s mission aligned perfectly with the community we’re building within Nuuness. I’m so excited to see how &Mother will change the world. If I’ve learned anything while working with Alysia Montaño these past two years it’s that she has the passion and tenacity to make the impossible, possible.”

The partnership between Nuun and &Mother will come in the form of limited edition merchandise available on www.nuunlife.com, with proceeds funding the &Mother mission.

About &Mother

&Mother was recently founded as a nonprofit to transition the #DreamMaternity movement, a call for action and awareness around the lack of sponsor support for female athletes choosing to become mothers during their athletic careers, into impact. Today, &Mother is working to build a world where women have the choice to pursue both career and motherhood without penalty or barriers. They believe society is healthier and more productive when it values mothers and reflects the needs of modern families.
