June 2, 2021

All-new ultralight tents offer streamlined designs and durability with minimal weight

Richmond, Calif. (June 2, 2021)– Mountain Hardwear, a leader in performance equipment and apparel for climbers, mountaineers, and athletes, has added to its robust offering of tents with two new ultra lightweight styles, the Nimbus™ UL 1 and 2 and Strato™ UL 2. These styles usher the brand into an entirely new category of tents, offering ample space and comfort for a durable and dependable backcountry refuge in a superlight kit.

“With our experience and expertise in the tent category, Mountain Hardwear belongs in the Ultralight space,” said Charlie Ranahan, global product manager for equipment and accessories at Mountain Hardwear. “In the past, we’ve had a major focus on durability and making tents to withstand the harshest conditions, but with the streamlined design offered in both the Strato™ and Nimbus™ UL, we didn’t have to sacrifice weight to accomplish that.”

Providing the most living space for the weight in its class, the Strato UL 2 Tent combines intelligent design features with premium, lightweight materials to slash ounces without cutting corners. Made with a pre-bend pole design to provide additional headroom and interior space along with a unique G-Hook canopy-to-pole attachment system to increase compressibility, the Strato UL is the ultimate essential for any quick weekend mission or multi-day thru-hike. The tent weighs in at 2 pounds 6.7 ounces when packed and features 31.1 square feet of tent floor area with two doors and one vestibule. The Strato UL 2 has an MSRP of $400.

In addition to the Strato UL, Mountain Hardwear is also releasing the all-new Nimbus UL. Featuring the same pre-bend pole design and G-Hook canopy-to-pole attachment system as the Strato, the Nimbus is constructed with streamlined features and a sil-nylon rainfly that offers full protection without dyes, PU-coatings, or flame-retardant chemicals — making it a more eco-friendly option.

The Nimbus is available in both a one person (Nimbus UL 1) and two person (Nimbus UL 2) option. The Nimbus UL 1 has a packed weight of 1 pound 14.6 ounces, a tent floor area of 19.7 square feet, features one door and one vestibule, and has an MSRP of $330. The Nimbus UL 2 has a packed weight of 2 pounds 2.2 ounces, a tent floor area of 28.1 square feet, features one door and one vestibule, and has an MSRP of $350.
