Iñigo San Millán, Coach Of Tour De France Winner, to Present Keynote At Endurance Exchange

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – USA Triathlon today announced renowned physiologist, sports scientist and coach Iñigo San Millán will serve as keynote speaker for the fifth annual Endurance Exchange, USA Triathlon’s endurance sports industry conference scheduled for Jan. 4-7, 2024 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

With live sessions presented by the endurance sports industry’s top coaches, race directors and industry professionals, Endurance Exchange annually features a mix of hands-on, experiential learning workshops and lecture experiences to educate athletes, coaches, race directors and more members of the multisport community.

Keynote: The Multidisciplinary Scientific Preparation and Monitoring of the Endurance Athlete

Over the span of his 27-year career, San Millán has made significant contributions to the fields of endurance sports, metabolic health, and performance optimization. He has been a pioneer in the development of new methodologies for athletic performance, such as physiological and metabolic assessment and protocols to assess mitochondrial function, nutrition, glycogen measurement and overtraining.

San Millán has also applied his research outside of elite endurance athletics to populations with chronic issues such as cardiometabolic diseases, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, as well as cancer and ICU patients. His research, developing novel methodologies to assess metabolic function, is coined “Metabolic Rehabilitation.”

San Millán received his doctorate in physiology from the School of Medicine at the University of the Basque Country. He has since worked with many elite and professional athletes, including coaching 2020 and 2021 Tour de France winner, Tadej Pogačar, Olympic medalists and world champions in sports like track & field, swimming, triathlon, rowing and also professional soccer, basketball, and hockey players. San Millán has also served as a consultant for several professional sports teams and is a sought-after speaker and educator in the sports science community.

In his Endurance Exchange keynote presentation, titled “The Multidisciplinary Scientific Preparation and Monitoring of the Endurance Athlete,” San Millán will share the key takeaways of his research, which focuses on the interplay between genetics, lifestyle, and performance, with a particular emphasis on how athletes can optimize their training and nutrition to achieve their full potential.

Endurance Exchange 2024 will take place at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in the university’s Popp Martin Student Union. Professionals will have the opportunity to earn USA Triathlon Coaching and Race Director Certification at Endurance Exchange. Endurance Exchange will also include the Race Director Summit, a day dedicated exclusively for race directors. In addition to having access to all sessions, expo and networking happy hours, attendees will be able to access all recorded sessions on-demand.
