Inaugural Monarch Triathlon champions women fighting cancer and their families

September 9, 2022

Unique SuperHalf™ course takes participants to Colorado River, Historic Route 66

KINGMAN, Ariz. /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – SheStrong Inc. has opened registration for the Monarch Triathlon SuperHalf™, a brand new women’s multisport event that will take to the waterways and roadways of Kingman and Bullhead City, Ariz. on Oct. 22. The nonprofit’s inaugural race will be the first-ever USA Triathlon Sanctioned Event in the area. The field is limited to 1,100 participants. Those interested in taking on the event’s 52-mile course can register online.

SheStrong Inc. began as an online community for women battling cancer to connect and find support as they returned to athletic training. The growth of the group led to the formation of a nonprofit and to the creation of the Monarch Triathlon SuperHalf™. The event will act as a fundraiser to provide college scholarships to girls who have lost their mother to cancer.

“When I was diagnosed with cancer in 2017, I knew I not only had to fight for my life but also fight to return to the activities I loved once I had finished my treatment. I am a Certified IRONMAN Coach, TriDot Coach, IRONMAN competitor, yoga and pilates instructor, and fitness enthusiast. I knew there had to be other athletes like me seeking community and support in their cancer journey and in their return to sport,” said Brandy Ramirez, the founder of SheStrong Inc. and race director for the Monarch Triathlon SuperHalf™. “This race will be a celebration of the rebirth of the women who have battled cancer, a chance to remember those we’ve lost, as well as an opportunity to bring hope and life to the participants and their loved ones.”

The course features historic and unique settings. Athletes will swim 0.9 miles downstream in the Colorado River, which promises fast swim times for participants and an experience free of waves. They will then ride 44 miles on Historic Highway 68 through Union Pass, and run seven miles along the iconic Route 66. All finishers and spectators will pass under the finish arch and be greeted with medals, video tributes and images to celebrate their accomplishment. A finish line festival will follow with food, drinks, music and more.
