I Ran the D 5K Celebrates Detroit Sports & Raises Funds for Pediatric Brain Cancer

Big River Race Management Provides Timing & Management Services

DETROIT /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – A Detroit sports fan’s dream, the I Ran the D 5k, presented by Bally Sports Detroit, brought together all four of Detroit’s professional sports teams – Tigers, Red Wings, Pistons and Lions – to raise money for the ChadTough Defeat DIPG Foundation which supports pediatric brain cancer research. The event held May 7 had more than 5,500 participants from 46 states, the District of Columbia and 6 countries between the in-person and virtual offerings.

Big River Race Management, a new partner of Bally Sports Detroit and the I Ran the D 5K, provided turnkey event management including permitting, course logistics, volunteer coordination, participant communication, race shirt and medal design and procurement, registration, live results and timing services.

“The people of Detroit are passionate about their sports teams, and supporting charitable causes,” said Lauren Pober of Bally Sports Detroit, which owns and presents the event. “I Ran the D brings all of those things together showcasing our city in a fun and high energy way. And the best part is that we raised funds to support the ChadTough Defeat DIPG Foundation, which focuses on research for pediatric cancer.”

One highlight for participants of Saturday’s event is starting and finishing the 5k at the Tigers stadium, Comerica Park and the ability to take a victory lap on the warning track upon completion of their race.
