February 13, 2026

42,793 Participants and 178,462 Total Attendees Underscore the Event’s Global Draw and Balanced U.S.–International Field
HONOLULU (February 13, 2026) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ — The 2025 Honolulu Marathon generated more than $532 million in total economic output, supported over 5,000 jobs, and produced more than $32 million in state and local tax revenue, according to a newly released Economic Impact Report available at research.honolulumarathon.org.
The 2025 event welcomed 42,793 registered participants. Including accompanying friends and family members, total marathon weekend attendance reached 178,462 people.
The participant base remains uniquely balanced: approximately one-third Hawaiʻi residents, one-third from the continental U.S., and one-third international. Japanese runners represent the largest international segment by a wide margin, making Japan the event’s primary overseas source market and a key driver of long-haul travel and overnight visitation.
“The Honolulu Marathon is more than a world-class sporting event. It is a powerful driver of economic activity for our city and our state,” said Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi. “With more than $532 million in total economic output, over 5,000 jobs supported, and more than $32 million generated in tax revenue, this event delivers real benefits for local businesses, workers, and families.”
Long-standing partnerships, including Japan Airlines as Title Sponsor, further strengthen the event’s air connectivity and market reach in Japan—one of the most established outbound marathon travel markets globally.
Beyond direct visitor spending, the report highlights broader industry impacts including local vendor contracts, media production, tourism promotion, and operational investment within Hawaiʻi. The findings position the Honolulu Marathon as a leading example of how destination endurance events generate measurable economic and industry-wide value.
