Herbalife24 Triathlon Los Angeles® And Professional Triathletes’ Organization Partner with Challenged Athlete Foundation on Sunday, May 15th, 2022 to Bring a New Race Format to Los Angeles

/ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Who: Fans can watch the greatest triathletes in the world including Norwegian superstar, Gustav Iden, top Canadian Lionel Sanders, and top American Sam Long with Holly Lawrence, Skye Moench and Heather Jackson as part of the new PTO Pro Am format.

This new format includes stars from the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) including Rudy Garcia-TolsonRoderick Sewell and Haven Shepherd who will lead the swim, followed by PTO Professional Triathletes who will bike their way through Los Angeles, handing over to amateurs who will run their way to the finish line.

Interviews are available with PTO Professionals as well as the Challenged Athletes competing in the Pro Am including Rudy Garcia-TolsonRoderick Sewell and Haven Shepherd, and team captain Amy Van Dyken Rouen, a six- time Olympic Gold Medalist in competitive swimming. 

In addition to the Pro Am race, more than 30 additional Professional Triathlete Organization (PTO) athletes, including Hannah Wells, Sarah True, Amelia Watkinson, Andrew StarykowiczJason West and Eric Lagerstrom will compete in the Herbalife24 Triathlon Los Angeles elite race alongside hundreds of amateur triathletes and runners.

What:

This popular unique urban triathlon, swim, bike and run course in Los Angeles, offers an increased prize purse of $100,000 to be awarded to elite athletes competing in the international distance triathlon. There are multiple events for participants, including:

  • Triathlon Sprint and International Distance
  • Aquabike International Distance
  • Triathlon Relay Teams
  • 22 Mile Bike Tour
  • 5K DTLA Run/Walk
  • PTO Pro Am

Proceeds raised from the 5k registration will benefit JDRF to help change the lives of millions living with Type 1 Diabetes.

The race begins at the iconic Venice Beach in the Pacific Ocean. After participants exit the water and pass-through T-1, the race continues on the bike down Venice Blvd and through the heart of Los Angeles. Proceeding from T-2 in Downtown, the race culminates on foot alongside iconic LA landmarks and finishes at the famed L.A. Live outdoor venue.

  • Bike Tour

Will start in Venice and pass historic and scenic neighborhoods culminating in L.A. Live.

  • 5K Run:

The run will begin at L.A. Live and traverse through DTLA before heading towards Korea Town.

6:18 a.m. – International Age Group Start at Venice Beach

6:30 a.m. – Bike Tour begins at Venice HS and 5K begins at L.A. Live

6:35 a.m. – Sprint Distance Age Group Starts at Venice Beach

10:00 a.m.- Awards (Finish Line Pros – Age Groupers)

1:00 p.m.- Finish Festival closes
