GORE® Wear Introduces itself to the American Cross-Country Industry at The Birkie

February 21, 2020

Hayward, Wis. (February 21, 2020) –America’s biggest cross-country ski event, The American Birkebeiner, is underway in Hayward, WI, and GORE® Wear is proud to be present at this iconic event as a sponsor.

With a full week of events, “The Birkie” draws an estimated 40,000 skiers and spectators, representing an impressive 47 states and 25 countries — gathered in a celebration of active lifestyle and competition.

Aligned in this spirit, GORE® Wear decided it would officially introduce its line of performance oriented cross-country ski apparel to the US market here.

“The American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation not only promotes one of the finest international cross country ski competitions, at their core they’re about supporting healthy and active lifestyles in the great outdoors. At GORE®, we too are passionate about helping people live their best active lives, in any weather. We are very happy to be here supporting this great event, and seeing our products in action during the compritions,” said Kevin King, GORE Wear associate.

After several years of development work, GORE® Wear initially launched its cross country skiing collection for the 2018-19 season, extending its portfolio beyond its widely known and award-winning bike and running wear for the first time.

Like its extensive running and bike collections, the GORE® Wear XC Ski collection was designed to empower people to train, compete and explore the snowy landscapes while staying warm, comfortable and with a total freedom of movement.

The X7 collection features GORE-TEX  INFINIUM™ and brings together the most advanced technologies to provide the best possible comfort and use-specific protection into one garment far beyond “waterproofness”.

“Our mission was to design a collection that balances contrary needs. Cross country skiers need a wide motion range in the upper body and arms area, yet an athletic fit. And while being protected against wind chill and cold, the fabric must allow enough breathability and ventilation to avoid overheating,” said Kristina Mora, product designer

GORE® Wear will showcase and sell this collection at the Birkie Expo on Thursday and Friday, February 20 and 21, 2020. Visitors to the booth will be greeted with hot beverages, a gear raffle and an opportunity to meet and greet some of GORE’s athletes.

In support of the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation (ABSF)’s green initiative, the GORE®  Wear booth will only use compostable and reusable cups, which are sold as fundraiser for ABSF’s trail stewardship efforts.
