September 4, 2024

The Bay Area’s Favorite Half Marathon returns first Sunday in November offering runners picturesque views of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge

SAN FRANCISCO – September 4, 2024 /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The Golden Gate Half Marathon and the Bay Area’s favorite sports and outdoor store, Sports Basement, re-ignited their relationship for 2024-2025 – and they look forward to hosting thousands of runners from around the world in San Francisco on Sunday, November 3, 2024. The internationally known half-marathon is the original road race that takes participants out-and-back across the Golden Gate Bridge.

Celebrating its 23rd edition in 2024, the race starts along the waterfront embarcadero, just steps from Ghirardelli Square, running on city streets to the bridge and across to Vista Point, the best selfie spot in all of running. Participants then run back across the bridge enjoying breathtaking views of the downtown skyline, Alcatraz and the San Francisco Bay before finishing at Ghirardelli Square.

“We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with Sports Basement as the official Retail and Expo Partner of November’s Golden Gate Half Marathon,” said Phyllis Blanchard, Vice-President of Partnerships for Motiv Sports. In the Bay Area, Motiv Sports owns and operates the GG Half as well as San Francisco’s historic Bay 2 Breakers event. “San Francisco has an incredible running community and Sports Basement is the home base for so many athletes. We can’t wait to roll out the red carpet and welcome runners from around the world to experience the magic of running across the Golden Gate Bridge.”

As the Exclusive Retail Partner and Expo Partner of the Golden Gate Half Marathon, Sports Basement will host the pre-race packet pick up where all athletes will pick up their race bib, t-shirt and swag bag. Sports Basement has a longstanding reputation of working closely with brands and events, serving as a hub for the endurance community with 11 locations located throughout the Bay Area, and one soon to be two locations in SoCal, one in Orange County and Long Beach opening prior to the end of this year.

“Our partnership with Motiv Sports continues to expand and we are looking forward to delivering an unforgettable experience for the Golden Gate Half runners as the host of the Lifestyle Expo and Packet Pickup out of our Presidio location” said Ian Ballentine, Director of Marketing. “We are passionate about bringing the running community together and know that this year will be one of our best years yet.”

Race weekend for the 23rd Golden Gate Half Marathon kicks off with the Lifestyle Expo and packet pickup on Friday afternoon, November 1st and Saturday, November 2nd at Sports Basement’s Presidio location. Both the half-marathon and 5k start together on Van Ness Ave in Aquatic Park on Sunday morning at 7:00am.
