GFNY Alpes Vaujany marks comeback for GFNY Organization

August 27, 2020

GFNY Alpes Vaujany, European Championship on August 30 will be the first GFNY to take place since the Covid-19 outbreak in March

NEW YORK CITY, August 27, 2020 – At a time when 99% of events around the world are getting canceled or postponed, GFNY is demonstrating as an organization that they are able to hold a safe event during the pandemic.

GFNY Alpes Vaujany, European Championship will be the first GFNY to take place since the pandemic turned the world of mass participation events upside down back in March. And what a race it will be: the relatively short 119km course packs no less than 3,970m of climbing, including the legendary cols de la Croix de Fer and du Glandon.

With detailed COVID-19 measures in place, GFNY Alpes Vaujany will go ahead this Sunday August 30. Travel bans have drastically affected the number of participants. By early March, already riders from over 30 countries were registered for the race. Today, only riders from a handful of countries are able to join the race because most either aren’t allowed to enter France or face lengthy quarantines on their return home. Nonetheless, the race will proceed and be an example of how races can safely continue during a pandemic.

“We have been in Vaujany for the past two weeks, riding the course and making sure all COVID measures are in place for a true GFNY experience,” said Lidia Fluhme, GFNY’s co-founder. “After almost six months with no races, we are excited to welcome riders and have a great day of GFNY racing!”

The top 20% of riders over all age groups in the long course qualify for a front corral start at any GFNY for the following 380 days.
