French authorities approve GFNY Alpes Vaujany Anti-COVID measures for August 30 race date

July 23, 2020

GFNY Alpes Vaujany, European Championship is scheduled to take place on August 30

NEW YORK CITY – GFNY Alpes Vaujany was the first cyclo in France to receive permission by the French authorities to hold the race on August 30, due to GFNY’s event production expertise and detailed Anti-COVID measures.

GFNY Alpes Vaujany / the GFNY European Championship is one of the very few events in France to have received the necessary permit from authorities to hold an event of more than 10 people. Calling on a wealth of experience from organizing close to 100 events in 25 countries, GFNY has established measures that will make the event as safe as possible for riders, fans, volunteers, staff and the local communities.

These measures include but are not limited to:

  • Open-air, one-way flow of packet pickup to allow social distancing.
  • Hand sanitizers readily available.
  • Support staff and volunteers wearing gloves and facemasks.
  • No expo to avoid congregations.
  • Larger size of start corrals with a reduced number of riders allocated to each corral.
  • One-way flow and increased size of aid stations serving only packaged food to maintain social distancing and avoid surface contamination.
  • Post-race food provided in a to-go container to avoid congregation and surface contamination.
  • No awards ceremony to avoid congregations.

“We understand that these new measures may take away from some of the pre- and post-race experiences. However, we can guarantee that riders will get a true GFNY experience: with mass start, start-to-finish timing and competition results,” said GFNY CEO Uli Fluhme. “After all that we have been through, this is really what we can’t wait for!”

The top 20% of riders over all age groups in the long course qualify for a front corral start at any GFNY for the following 380 days.
