Fleet Feet Chicago Gears up to Celebrate Global Running Day with Anthony Rizzo and the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation
May 28, 2026

Chicago, IL (May 28, 2026) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Fleet Feet Chicago will be celebrating Global Running Day with Anthony Rizzo and the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation on Wednesday, June 3rd, 2026.
Held annually on the first Wednesday of June, Global Running Day signifies the start of the summer training journey for Chicagoans getting ready to toe the line for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. The 18 week journey for runners preparing their bodies for 26.2 miles is a challenging, yet rewarding one.
Among those who will be toeing the line on October 11th is former Chicago Cubs player, Anthony Rizzo. Rizzo will be running his first marathon in support of his charity, the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation, whose mission is to raise money for cancer research and to provide direct financial and emotional support to children and their families battling the disease.
Rizzo shared his motivation for the race: “Coming from baseball, I’ve always been in and around team sports. The thing that excites me the most about tackling the Bank of America Chicago Marathon is being a part of something bigger than yourself – most people think of running as an individual sport, but it takes all of us pushing each other to the finish line to make something magical happen. One runner running alone is one thing, but it’s the collective of the team that has power. I’m excited to have 25 other team members as part of the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation all running for the same cause.”

Global Running Day has been a cornerstone in Fleet Feet Chicago’s calendar for 30 years. “Global Running Day is about bringing runners together from all the neighborhoods of our city to do the one thing that unites us, which is the simple movement of left right, repeat,” says Dave Zimmer, owner of Fleet Feet Chicago. “This year, we’re excited to welcome Anthony into the fold and show him just how special and welcoming the Fleet Feet running community is.”
Participants for the June 3rd event have two registration tiers to choose from: general admission for $10 or VIP for $100. While general admission can be selected during checkout, those seeking a personal photo opportunity with Anthony Rizzo should opt for the VIP admission. The Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation will receive all proceeds from the event.
The event will kick off with a 3-mile run which Rizzo will be joining, starting from Shore Club Chicago running north along the lakefront path and back.
