New running event aims to raise funds for hometown organizations

BOSTON /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The Dave McGillivray Finish Strong Foundation has announced the beneficiaries of funds raised through Run Medford, a brand new weekend-long celebration of community, running, and the City of Medford produced by DMSE Sports and hosted by the foundation. The event highlights founder and race director Dave McGillivray’s connection, legacy, and community service with his hometown. The nonprofits and community organizations selected carry that theme forward. They include:

  • Charlotte and William Bloomberg Medford Public Library
  • Power Kids Summer Enrichment Program
  • Medford Parks And Recreation Program
  • Medford Senior Center
  • The Center For Citizenship And Social Responsibility At Medford High School

Runners and walkers looking to take part and support these beneficiaries can sign up to participate on Sept. 18 at www.RunMedford.com.

“Our goal with this event is to create a community-based and involved mass-participatory event that will have a significant and positive impact on the City of Medford, its businesses, churches, residents, non-profits, student-athletes, and people in need,” said McGillivray. “The organizations we’ve chosen to support as we launch Run Medford make our city a great place to live, learn, work, play – and, of course, run! We’re looking forward to sharing the great work that they do with the community.”

Run Medford will take to the streets of McGillivray’s hometown on Sunday, Sept. 18 with 8k, 5k, and one-mile courses, as well as kids’ fun runs, to choose from. Each running event starts and finishes at Medford City Hall. Registration for the 8k and 5k events is $45. Entry into the kids’ fun run events is $10. Each participant will receive a finisher’s medal, t-shirt, a copy of McGillivray’s book “Running Across America, A True Story of Dreams, Determination and Heading for Home”, and, for those over 21 years old, two drink tickets for the post-race celebration. Awards will be presented for the top three participants in each age group, overall male, female, and masters divisions.
