Athlete success at the elite, age-group, and novice levels is driving growth in trail and ultra running coaching.

The staff of 67 coaches benefits from an industry-leading continuing education program, ongoing mentoring and evaluation, as well as marketing and business services.

“As the sport of ultrarunning grows and CTS attracts elite, age-group, and novice trail runners to work with professional CTS Coaches, we are actively recruiting talented, passionate, and highly-accomplished coaches like Jaume Lloria-Varella, Martin Torres, Mindy Kaufman, and Hannah Young”, said Cliff Pittman, CTS Coaching Development Director.

All the trail and ultrarunning coaches below are available for new athletes immediately.

Jaume Lloria-Varella
CTS Expert Ultrarunning Coach

Jaume brings a blend of scientific depth, practical coaching experience, and mountain endurance expertise. He holds a Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology and has spent more than a decade researching fatigue, durability, and trail and ultra-endurance performance while also teaching at the university level. Jaume coaches road and trail runners, cyclists, and mountain endurance athletes across a wide performance spectrum, with a focus on long-term development, injury resilience, and sustainable performance. Fluent in five languages and deeply rooted in mountainous sport environments, he is committed to helping athletes train with purpose, understand their responses to training, and build lasting resilience in endurance sport.

Martin Torres
CTS Expert Ultrarunning Coach

Martin joins CTS as a UESCA-certified Ultrarunning Coach and Endurance Sports Nutrition Coach with a lifelong background in outdoor and endurance athletics. His experience spans mountain and road cycling, climbing, mountaineering, and trail and ultrarunning. Most recently, Martin served five years as Head Coach of the adidas Runners trail program, where he guided first-time ultramarathoners and competitive athletes toward meaningful progress in the mountains. His coaching centers on helping athletes reach their potential while preserving the joy of movement and connection to the outdoors.

Mindy Kaufman
CTS Expert Ultrarunning Coach

Mindy joins CTS with a deep belief in the power of the coach-athlete relationship and the role mentorship plays in long-term growth. A lifelong runner, she competed collegiately at the University of Montana Western while earning a teaching degree with a minor in sports coaching and achieving All-American honors in cross country and track & field. After college, Mindy expanded into road, trail, and ultrarunning — in part inspired by her older sister, CTS coach Darcie Murphy. Her coaching draws on her background in education, is athlete-centered and grounded in current, science-based approaches to ultrarunning and endurance performance.

Hannah Young
CTS Expert Ultrarunning Coach

Hannah Young is a former Division I soccer player turned trail and ultrarunning coach. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Exercise, and Health Science and Psychology, along with a master’s degree in Exercise Physiology. She brings a science-backed, athlete-centered approach to coaching, drawing on her own experiences with elite competition, return to sport after injury, and sport psychology to help athletes build belief in themselves and reach their full potential.
