Colorado Classic launches #InspiredWeRide jersey campaign to keep fans and communities riding throughout Fall and Winter

September 10, 2020

Denver, CO (September 10, 2020) —Without any actual race jerseys to award this past August due to the cancellation of its 2020 event, the Colorado Classic® presented by VF Corporation has launched a new campaign opening up its jersey competition to the public in an effort to  inspire cyclists everywhere to ride with the spirit of the Colorado Classic throughout the fall and winter months.

From athlete webinars to an inspirational speaker series and a fundraising ride on Zwift, the organizers behind the Colorado Classic have presented creative ways to keep the cycling world engaged during this unusual and trying year; while furthering their mission be more than a race, and act as a movement to inspire and  empower women of all ages to break the mold, and fight for their goals.

This latest initiative, the #InspiredWeRide Jersey Campaign, is one for the public at large and professional cyclists alike.

“Our team was disappointed that we couldn’t award actual race jerseys atop a podium this year, but we are dedicated to continue to push our spirit and message of empowerment forward,” said Lucy Diaz, CEO of RPM Events Group LLC. “While it won’t be Chloe sweeping the jerseys on the podium this year, it could be one of our super fans. We’re having some fun, keeping our audience engaged, and creating some friendly competition with this virtual jersey competition. Each month we’ll roll out a new challenge, so keep watching so you don’t miss out!”

Introducing: The #InspiredWeRide Jersey Campaign

Like most multi-day professional cycling races, the Colorado Classic has traditionally awarded several race jerseys, each signifying a different category. There’s the Overall Race Leader jersey, the Sprinter’s jersey, a Climber’s jersey (also called Queen on the Mountains), a Best Young Rider jersey, and a Most Inspirational Rider jersey. Unique to the Colorado Classic in 2019, was the addition of a “Most Badass Rider” jersey. A fan and rider favorite, this jury-awarded jersey was awarded to the racer who demonstrated uncompromising fearlessness, confidence, and formidable skill during the race.

In 2019, international time trialing and track superstar, Chloe Dygert, took home every one of the traditional competition jerseys while riders like Lindsay Goldman, Ayesha McGowan, Heather Fisher, Rachel Langdon, Katherine Hall, Flavia Oliveira, and Edwige Pitel had turns in the Most Inspirational or Most Badass jerseys. Five of these signed jerseys are now up for grabs as the Colorado Classic rolls out its virtual jersey campaign for the off season.

Centered around healthy lifestyles, fun competition and empowerment, the Colorado Classic will roll out a new challenge each month and with it, an opportunity to win a signed Colorado Classic jersey as well as other prices.

The 2020 Virtual Badass Jersey

The campaign will be kicked off during national “Bike to Wherever Week” with the Badass Jersey being awarded to a cyclist that not only takes the pledge to ride to “wherever” during the week of Sept 21-25, but also tells us why she/he deserves to win on their social channels.

The Colorado Classic team believes that the bicycle has a transformative power beyond just competition; in fact, the bicycle brings unparalleled benefits of joy, health and freedom to anyone pushing the pedals. Because of this, the event is excited to partner with Way to Go, the Downtown Denver Partnershipand the Gates Corporation to get more people on bikes and riding safely in their communities — whether that is to work, school or to a workout.

Participants in this month’s challenge will be asked to “pledge” to ride on Bike to Wherever Week September 21-25, and also tag the Colorado Classic and hashtag #InspiredWeRide in their social media posts telling what makes them a badass!

There will be two prizes for this kick-off campaigns:: one Priority Bicycles Brilliant L Train Bicycleequipped with a Gates Carbon Drive belt system, and one Colorado Classic Most Badass Rider Jersey signed by Flavia Oliveira from Team  Fearless Femme.
