Canyon Ride Santa Barbara 100 Goes Virtual for 2020

September 1, 2020

Announcing New Title Sponsor and New Virtual Format to #KeepYourDistance 2020

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – September 1, 2020 – The Canyon Ride Santa Barbara 100 (RideSB100) is going virtual for 2020, encouraging riders to #KeepYourDistance and ride one of four virtual challenges from October 17 to 25 along the world-class Santa Barbara course, on their own roads, or even stationary.

“This year is just different, and we’re honoring that by going virtual. We still want to ride, we’ve heard from many of our RideSB100 family that they still want to ride, and we know there are a lot of new riders out there who could use some inspiration to keep pushing themselves and enjoy the outdoors,” said Jamie Monroe, RideSB100 director and owner of Easy Day Sports. “We are excited to wholeheartedly welcome Canyon Bicycles, USA, to the team as our new title sponsor. They represent the best in cycling – amazing bikes and amazing people who love and support the sport.”

“It has been a very challenging year for events and our riding communities,” said Blair Clark, Canyon US President. “But inspiring riders to ride remains our mission, regardless of the format the current situation dictates. This is especially true when we have the opportunity to also help those truly in need –RideSB100’s partnership with Food Bank of Santa Barbara County is even more important as communities struggle with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and we look forward to amplifying their efforts.”

The 2020 Canyon RideSB100 virtual format will include:

  • 100-Mile Challenge: complete 100 miles in 9 days.
  • 9k Elevation Challenge: complete 9,000 feet of elevation gain in 9 days.
  • Team Challenge: complete the most miles as a team in 9 days.
  • Gibraltar Road Challenge (Strava): a “Modified Live” event where riders complete the Gibraltar Challenge during the time frame to be ranked on the leaderboard.

Registration is open now, and full details including rider swag and virtual tracking is all online at https://ridesb100.com.

The $50 general entry will include a T-shirt, water bottle, finisher medal, and a charity donation worth approximately 100 meals to the Food Bank of Santa Barbara County. Entries into any one category also gives riders access to post their workouts in other divisions and be ranked there as well. While the RideSB100 has never been a competition, the event will continue its tradition of honoring top finishing riders across various categories. The top 10 riders of each ride class, age and gender categories will be awarded a commemorative pint glass. All Registered riders who climb Gibraltar Road will also receive $500 off orders from Canyon.

For 2020, the Canyon RideSB100 has partnered with the Food Bank of Santa Barbara County to help families in need. The ride will support Food Bank of Santa Barbara County’s mission to end hunger and transform the health of Santa Barbara County through good nutrition. For every registered rider, the Canyon RideSB100 will donate $12.50 to the Food Bank, which is estimated to be worth approximately 100 meals. This year, the need is greater than ever:

  • 60,000 pounds of food are leaving the Food Bank’s warehouses each day.
  • Demand for food assistance has doubled since March.
  • 1 in 4 county residents are being served during this crisis.

“The Food Bank of Santa Barbara provides critical support to the community, and our goal is to raise enough funds to provide 100,000 meals this year,” Monroe said.

The 2020 Canyon RideSB100 virtual challenges are being held October 17-25, 2020. Riders are encouraged to ride portions of the actual routes on their own using the event’s Strava routes as guides.
