September 9, 2020

Prize awarded in a sweepstakes that raised more than $40,000 for Parkinson’s

Louisville, Colo. — The Davis Phinney Foundation, which supports people with Parkinson’s, was honored to award a very special prize to an American combat veteran – a custom-painted bike from a pro-cycling star.

The randomly-selected winner was Katie Kuiper of Colorado Springs, a former combat veteran for the United States. No payment was required for this chance award.

The special bike was hand-painted by artist and world-famous cyclist Taylor Phinney, the son of famed athletes Davis and Connie Phinney. It was done with partnership with Adin Baird of Left Creek Media and Allied Cycleworks, uniquely positioned to serve people of all abilities to ride bikes on any terrain.

More than 1,700 entries were received, raising over $40,000 for the Davis Phinney Foundation. This special bike was also featured as part of the Every Victory Counts Challenge. This first-ever virtual event for the Foundation welcomed people of all abilities to track their activities through minutes or miles, contribute to the foundation, and connect as a community to cheer one another on even while far apart. Participants in that challenge were also entered for a chance to win the bike. All total, the foundation was able to raise over $250,000 in the month of July.
