Coronado Fourth of July Rough Water Swim Begins New Chapter as the Crown City Open Water Swim
June 5, 2026

CORONADO, Calif. /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – One of Coronado’s longest-running Fourth of July weekend traditions is entering a new chapter.
The event formerly known as the Coronado Fourth of July Rough Water Swim is now the Crown City Open Water Swim, bringing a refreshed identity to a community favorite that has welcomed swimmers to Coronado’s waterfront for decades.
The rebrand follows Easy Day Sports’ acquisition of the event and aligns the swim with the Crown City Classic Run while preserving the tradition that swimmers have enjoyed for generations.
Taking place Sunday, July 5 at Glorietta Bay, the Crown City Open Water Swim will continue the event’s legacy while expanding its connection to the broader Crown City race weekend experience.
Participants can choose from a 1 Mile Open Water Swim, Half Mile Open Water Swim, or 250-Meter Youth Sprint Swim, with distances designed for swimmers of all ages and experience levels.
While the name may be new, the spirit of the event remains unchanged.
For years, the Fourth of July Rough Water Swim has been a staple of Coronado’s holiday weekend, bringing together local swimmers, families, and visitors for a morning on the water.
“The Crown City Open Water Swim represents an exciting new chapter for a tradition that has meant so much to the Coronado community over the years,” said Megan Allen, Marketing Manager at Easy Day Sports. “While the event has a new name, participants can expect the same atmosphere and memorable race experience that have made it a holiday weekend favorite.”
New for 2026, swimmers can also participate in the Crown City Challenge by completing both the Crown City Classic on July 4 and the Crown City Open Water Swim on July 5. Participants who complete both events will earn an exclusive Crown City Challenge Medal in addition to their individual finisher medals.
The Crown City Classic, which has been part of Coronado’s Independence Day celebrations for more than 50 years, features a 12K Run, 5K Run, and Kids Half Mile. Together, the two events create a full weekend of fitness, community, and Fourth of July celebration in Coronado.
In addition to providing memorable race experiences, the events support local youth athletics through donations benefiting the Islander Sports Foundation and Coronado Swim Team Elite.
Registration is now open for both the Crown City Open Water Swim and Crown City Classic. Participants interested in earning the Crown City Challenge Medal must register for both events.
