ASICS Los Angeles Marathon and LADWP’s Renewed Sustainability Partnership Hydrated Runners and Protected the Planet at 2026 Event
March 18, 2026

LOS ANGELES, Calif. /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The ASICS Los Angeles Marathon, produced by The McCourt Foundation, continued its partnership with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) for the 2026 edition of the event, which took place on March 8. This collaboration is instrumental in the marathon’s industry-leading sustainability initiatives, focusing on providing clean, local water to tens of thousands of athletes while drastically reducing plastic waste.
As part of a shared commitment to environmental stewardship, the LADWP provided the infrastructure to tap directly into the city’s water supply at 15 of the 19 hydration stations along the 26.2-mile course.
By utilizing “Water Monsters, large-scale, high-capacity distribution tanks, the partnership eliminated the need for thousands of single-use plastic bottles and reduced the carbon footprint associated with transporting bottled water. This “tap-to-track” approach ensured that runners received high-quality, chilled Los Angeles water while protecting the environment.
Efforts made possible by the partnership contributed to the ASICS Los Angeles Marathon maintaining its prestigious Evergreen Status, awarded by the Council for Responsible Sport. This certification is the highest level of recognition for social and environmental responsibility in sporting events and has been achieved by very few events.
“Our partnership with the LADWP is a testament to what is possible when city agencies and world-class events align,” said Murphy Reinschreiber, Chief Operating Officer at The McCourt Foundation. “With LADWP we aren’t just hydrating runners; we are setting a global standard for how major marathons can operate sustainably.”
“The ASICS LA Marathon is more than a race — it’s a celebration of our diverse communities coming together,” said Anselmo Collins, Chief Operating Officer and Senior Assistant General Manager of the Water System at LADWP. “We’re proud to have helped hydrate thousands of runners and support an event that inspired Angelenos, activated neighborhoods across the city, and reinforced our mission to deliver reliable, sustainable water every day of the year. Our partnership with The McCourt Foundation highlighted the importance of conserving water and strengthening local supplies — helping build a more affordable, equitable, sustainable, and resilient future for all Angelenos.”
