Scotland's legendary closed-road sportive returns with stunning Highland scenery, community spirit, and global appeal

Inverness, Scotland (October 9, 2025) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/The countdown is on to the UK’s most spectacular cycling event, as the Etape Loch Ness returns on Sunday, 26 April 2026, promising riders a truly unforgettable journey through the Scottish Highlands.

Now entering its 12th edition, the 2026 sportive is set to be bigger and better than ever, with organisers building on the success of recent years to deliver another world-class experience on the UK’s most scenic closed-road route.

Cyclists will once again take on the iconic 66-mile (106 km) loop around Loch Ness, enjoying panoramic mountain views, and the challenge of 900 metres of total ascent – including the legendary King and Queen of the Mountain climb, a 4.8-mile section rising 380 metres with gradients peaking at 12%.

General entries for the 2026 event are now open. The event is expected to sell out quickly, following record demand for the 2025 edition so riders are encouraged to act fast.

For those who want to ride with purpose, Macmillan Cancer Support will once again serve as the event’s official charity partner. Charity places will be available with a minimum fundraising pledge of £150, helping Macmillan support the 3.5 million people living with cancer in the UK. An impressive £2.3m has been raised for Macmillan by Etape Loch Ness riders through its partnership with the event since 2014.

Malcom Sutherland, CEO of Caledonian Concepts said “Each year, the Etape Loch Ness grows in scale and spirit, and 2026 is set to be our greatest event yet. From first-timers to returning riders, everyone who takes on this challenge experiences something truly special – the scenery, the camaraderie, and the incredible sense of achievement at the finish line in Inverness. We can’t wait to welcome cyclists back for what promises to be another unforgettable day in the Highlands.”

The non-competitive sportive continues to attract riders from around the globe – with 2025’s event seeing participants from over 20 countries and a third of entrants travelling from outside Scotland. The route’s combination of challenge, scenery, and Highland hospitality has made it a bucket-list event for cyclists of all abilities.

With stunning scenery, an electric atmosphere, and a growing international following, Etape Loch Ness 2026 promises pure GreatNess on two wheels.
