CTS Athlete Katie Schide Wins Hardrock 100 in Course Record Time

Fellow CTS Athlete Germain Grangier finishes third overall
Colorado Springs, CO (July 15, 2025) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/– Katie Schide (USA) won the 2025 Hardrock 100 in Silverton, Colorado, with the counter-clockwise and new overall course record time of 25:50:23. The winner of both Western States Endurance Run and Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB) in 2024, Schide is a CTS High Performance Coaching Program (HPCP) athlete. Her coaching team is led by CTS Ultrarunning Head Coach Jason Koop and includes Sarah Scozzaro, NSCA-PT, NASM PES for strength training and Meredith Terranova, MS for nutrition. Germain Grangier, who is also a CTS HPCP athlete, finished a strong third place overall to complete a French-athlete sweep of the Men’s Hardrock podium.
The 102-mile race started at 6:00 a.m. on July 11 and featured 33,000 feet of elevation gain and a 48-hour cut-off. Nearby wildfires caused air quality concerns early on, but did not slow finish times for the front runners. Tragically, one runner, 60-year-old Elaine Stypula of Michigan passed away fewer than seven miles into the race. CTS extends its condolences to all affected.
Schide leveraged her fitness, experience, and problem-solving capabilities to win Hardrock and increase her margin of victory as the race progressed. Compared to Western States and UTMB, Hardrock features higher altitude exposures, including the high point at the 14,048-foot summit of Handies Peak. Schide managed her pace to respect the altitude and overcame some stomach issues later in the race to finish with a strong final descent into Silverton.
“Katie continues to prove she’s one of the best athletes in the world,” commented Jason Koop. “She now won UTMB twice and set that course record, won Western States and Diagonale des Fous, and now Hardrock 100 in record time on her first attempt. Setting a course record at Hardrock is really hard on your first attempt because there are so many new variables to contend with, including the altitude and terrain.”
Germain Grangier’s CTS HPCP team consists of Jason Koop as lead coach, Sarah Scozzaro for strength training, Renee McGregor for nutrition, and additional resources as needed. Grangier came into his debut Hardrock 100 performance with great fitness and executed a strong and smart race to finish in third overall.
“Germain bounced back from a tough year in 2024 to put everything together for a great performance,” said Jason Koop. “Hardrock isn’t typically where you regain your mojo, it’s more often where you lose your mojo because the course and the altitude are so difficult. Germain’s performance was the result of a massive team effort over the winter and through the spring to troubleshoot and solve the issues he struggled with last season.”
Coach Koop and CTS formalized the High-Performance Coaching Program after piloting the program before the 2024 Western States Endurance Run. The program now features more than half a dozen athletes, with more on the wait list. “High Performance Teams are a proven method for maximizing athletic potential and recent results from Western States and Hardrock prove they work in ultrarunning,” said Coach Koop.
