RaceRaves announces Best Racing Cities in the U.S.

November 18, 2020

National poll identifies the top racing destinations for runners

Los Angeles, CA (November 18, 2020) — RaceRaves, the leading online race finder and reviews community for runners and endurance athletes, has announced the winners of its 2020 “Best Racing Cities in the U.S.” poll.

The company’s authoritative new guide spotlights the top 10 large, midsize and small racing cities in the nation along with profiles of the top 5 in each category, including noteworthy attractions and favorite local running events to help traveling runners build their wish list of destination races.

Winners were determined through an online poll conducted by RaceRaves from Sept 16 to Oct 18, 2020. The poll included a diverse list of 50 U.S. cities big and small, along with a write-in option. Respondents ranked their top three choices and, in many cases, provided supporting commentary based on the destination itself and the quality of running events hosted there.

Highlights from the list of winners include:

  • Not surprisingly Boston, Chicago and New York City remain a “major” draw for runners across the U.S. thanks to their signature Abbott World Marathon Majors events, strong running communities, and universal appeal as travel destinations.
  • Among midsize cities, Cincinnati created some buzz and brought home the bacon on the strength of two beloved race weekends, the Flying Pig Marathon and Queen Bee Half Marathon.
  • With a population of just over 5,000, Moab, UT claimed the title of smallest winning city thanks to its catalog of highly rated events and easy proximity to two National Parks.

“This initiative advances our commitment to helping runners discover the best places in the U.S. for their next destination race,” said RaceRaves co-founder and Chief Racing Officer Mike Sohaskey. “We congratulate each of these deserving cities on this grass-roots recognition and on hosting exceptional events that inspire so many athletes. And once in-person racing returns, we know they’ll again become vibrant go-to destinations for runners across the country and around the world. In the meantime, RaceRaves will continue to provide a trusted, go-to resource to support runners and race organizers alike.”

The full article including the complete list of 30 winning cities is available on the company’s blog at RaceRaves.com. This is the third annual installment in the company’s popular “Runners Choice” series which includes the Best Marathons in the U.S. and Best Half Marathons in the U.S. In addition, RaceRaves regularly publishes some of the running industry’s most comprehensive guides including their 2020 Best Bets for Boston Marathon Qualifying Races.
