1500 riders from 23 countries head to Mexico for GFNY Monterrey

March 5, 2020

GFNY Monterrey kicks of a month of South American March Madness with riders from 23 countries ready to take on the iconic Monterey course

NEW YORK CITY, March 5, 2020 – 1500 riders from 23 countries will take on GFNY Monterrey this Sunday March 8th as part of the 2020 Global Cycling Marathon Series.

This weekend, all eyes will be on brothers, Miguel and Fernando Arroyo and cousins, Luis Lemus and Flavio de Luna. Out of a strong field, it is these four names that stand out and are predicted to contest for the crown. It is all a question of who attacks first and who will ride the best strategy on race day.

Miguel Arroyo will be looking to reclaim the title he won in 2018, Luis Lemus will be looking to better his fourth placing in 2019.

GFNY Monterrey offers two route options. The competitive long course of 160km with 1711 meters of climbing. The non-competitive medium route covers 100km and 708 meters of climbing.

Both routes start at the famous Parque Fundidora where a lively Mexican ceremony will officially start the race. Riders will race through downtown Monterrey before splitting and the competitive course heads north towards Chipinque park where the start of a 7km King of the Mountain climb begins. At the top, riders are rewarded with spectacular views of Monterrey city skyline.

“March is a busy month for GFNY racing in South America and we are excited to start this month of March madness here in Monterrey.” said Lidia Fluhme, President and co-founder of GFNY. “GFNY Monterrey offers riders a fantastic race experience of fully closed to police moderated roads throughout the entire course. At the end, a celebration finish line party in true Mexican style will conclude a great experience for everyone who takes part this Sunday.”

The top 10% of finishers on the competitive route will qualify for the racer corral at the 2020 GFNY World Championship NYC.
