Young Athletes Shine at First-Ever Zuma Beach Kids Triathlon in Malibu
September 16, 2025

Malibu, CA (September 16, 2025) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The Zuma Foundation proudly hosted the first-ever Triathlon For Kids in Malibu on Saturday, September 13th, giving young athletes from across Los Angeles the chance to experience the thrill of swim, bike, and run on one of the world’s most iconic beaches.
Designed to inspire healthy lifestyles and introduce kids to the sport of triathlon, the event welcomed families, friends, and community members who gathered to cheer on the next generation of athletes. With age-specific courses, participants raced through Zuma Beach with determination and excitement:
- Ages 9–11: 100-yard swim, 3-mile bike, ½-mile run
- Ages 12–14: 200-yard swim, 6-mile bike, 1-mile run
“The energy was incredible as kids crossed the finish line with smiles, pride, and newfound confidence,” said Michael Epstein, Executive Producer of the Zuma Beach Triathlon. “This event was all about creating lifelong memories, showing young people that sport is fun, and encouraging families to come together around health and fitness. We were thrilled to see the inaugural event sell out, but what made us even prouder was the success of the Parent/Child Division—and the day’s most touching moment came when Paralympic Triathlete and Silver and Bronze Medalist Mohamed Lahna crossed the finish line hand-in-hand with his son.”
To ensure access for all, the Zuma Foundation provided discounted and complimentary entries for families in need. Children from diverse backgrounds joined together for their first triathlon experience, making the day as inclusive as it was inspiring.
The Kids Triathlon served as the perfect lead-in to Sunday’s Zuma Beach Triathlon on September 14th, which brought together thousands of athletes, celebrities, and community members. The main event raised over $150,000 in support of the Challenged Athletes Foundation and the Boys & Girls Club of Malibu, uniting participants of all levels in a powerful display of energy, resilience, and shared purpose.
The weekend of races expanded the Zuma Foundation’s mission of using sport to strengthen community bonds and promote wellness. Families left not only with medals and memories but also with a renewed sense of belonging, carrying forward the values of perseverance, teamwork, and joy.
