San Diego’s Most Patriotic Race Marks America’s Semiquincentennial with Purpose and Pride

January 12, 2026 /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – On Saturday, July 4, 2026, the Crown City Classic celebrates its 53rd year, inviting runners of all ages to start their holiday with purpose, patriotism, and panoramic views along San Diego Bay. The event features a 12K (7.4 miles), a fast-paced 5K, and the Kids Half Mile – creating a family-friendly atmosphere that has made this race a Southern California tradition.

Participants will start beneath the largest American flag on the West Coast in Tidelands Park and run along the iconic Glorietta Boulevard, taking in sweeping views of the Coronado Bridge and downtown skyline. All finishers receive an exclusive 2026 race tee, chip-timed results, a commemorative medal, and access to the Crown City Classic Expo.

The Crown City Classic is proud to partner with its official charity, the Islander Sports Foundation, whose mission is to ensure every Coronado student has access to school athletics, regardless of financial need. Through race proceeds, the event contributes over $20,000 annually to help fund essential resources like uniforms, coaching, officiating, and tournament participation for local youth sports programs.

“The race is a symbol of patriotism for runners, a chance for all to come together and celebrate America, especially this year as we mark the nation’s 250th birthday,” said Jamie Monroe, Race Director of the Crown City Classic. “It’s a great day that combines athleticism and national pride into an opportunity to support the Coronado community and our local youth.”

The celebration doesn’t stop at the finish line. Runners are encouraged to stay for Coronado’s full Fourth of July festivities, including the town’s beloved parade and waterfront fireworks that close out the day.
