Sprint finish crowns champions at Inaugural GFNY Aguascalientes

March 25, 2026

Over 1000 riders compete in thrilling debut edition

New York City (March 25, 2026) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The inaugural GFNY Aguascalientes delivered an exciting day of racing, with more than 1,000 cyclists lining up at Isla San Marcos for a scenic yet demanding course featuring rolling terrain and the decisive 5 km climb of El Ocote.

The long distance race covered 145 km with 1,511 meters of climbing, including four key ascents that shaped the race. The action ignited on the first ascent of El Ocote, where an early breakaway of three riders formed, quickly gaining up to three minutes over the chasing group. Behind them, a series of attacks gradually thinned the peloton as the strongest contenders emerged.

By the start of the second lap, the breakaway’s advantage had been reduced to one minute. On the second ascent of El Ocote, Mexican riders and GFNY standouts Flavio de Luna, a multiple-time GFNY champion, and Miguel Reyes, GFNY San Luis Potosí champion, bridged across to the leaders. The duo immediately accelerated, distancing all rivals and committing to the decisive move of the race.

The two leaders arrived together at the finish, where Reyes took the win in a sprint in 3:36:08, narrowly edging De Luna. They finished two minutes ahead of the chasers. Behind them, a select group of seven riders, including GFNY champion Luis Lemus, Christopher Hans, and Juan Manuel Villanueva, sprinted for the remaining podium position, with Villanueva securing third and completing an all-Mexican podium.

The women’s race saw two riders remain positioned within the main chasing group throughout the race. In the final sprint, Brenda Santoyo, runner-up at GFNY Mazatlán 2021, claimed victory ahead of Diana Rodriguez, runner-up at GFNY Lourdes Tourmalet 2024, winning in 3:49:31. GFNY San Luis Potosí champion Nancy Mercado completed the podium, finishing nearly 13 minutes behind.

Next on the global schedule is the fifth edition of GFNY Cannes in France on Sunday, April 12, 2026.
