Run Tucson Hosts May 31st RRCA West Regional One Mile Road Championship

$2,000 at stake in TMC Meet Me Downtown 5k and Festival of Miles
May 2, 2025 /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – With over $2,000 in prize money at stake in multiple races the TMC Meet Me Downtown 5k Night Run and Festival of Miles has become a popular race among athletes from around the country.
Scheduled for Saturday night, May 31st and held in the heart of Downtown Tucson, the fast and flat routes cover historic neighborhoods.
Runners from over 25 states have signed up to join the Arizona field, including handfuls of regional elite athletes taking aim at course records, time incentives, and team bonuses.
In the Open Mile, the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) West Regional One Mile Championship will confer special Championship status for men and women in Open, Over 40, Over 50 and Over 60 age divisions.
In addition to the RRCA Championship, top runners can earn upwards of $1000 in prize money based on place and time incentives.
“We’re honored to host the RRCA West Regional Championships,” says race director Randy Accetta. “Prize money is hard to come by these days, so we’re proud to be a local race supporting top running.”
The schedule for the multiple events allows all runners to compete in multiple events;
6:00 pm: Open Prize Money Mile, with prize money for top three male and female finishers and time incentives. This race is the RRCA West Regional One Mile Championship
6:15 pm: Running Shop High School Mile, by HOKA, with awards for top individual finishers and teams, free for all high school and junior high athletes
6:30pm: The Southern Arizona Roadrunners “FitKidz Mile” free for all children 12-and-under.
7:00pm: The TMC 5k Night Run, with prize money to top three male and female finishers and age group awards from The Running Shop in 5-year increments from U15 through 80+

About TMC Meet Me Downtown 5k: This is the 19th annual edition of the event that was founded to enhance the Downtown Tucson community. Since its founding it has regularly been the largest road race in Southern Arizona.
About the RRCA National Championship Series: Since 1958, the RRCA has awarded championship events through a competitive bidding process at the National, Regional, and State level to RRCA member clubs and events to promote the sport of distance running.
