Registration Now Open for the 2025 YMCA Turkey Trot Presented by UPMC Health Plan
August 27, 2025

More than 8,000 participants expected for this annual holiday tradition on Thursday, Nov. 27
PITTSBURGH (August 27, 2025) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Registration is now open for the 2025 YMCA Turkey Trot, presented by UPMC Health Plan! This beloved Pittsburgh tradition invites families to kick off Thanksgiving Day with a healthy activity while supporting a vital cause. The event includes a 5-mile run, 5K, and 1-mile fun run, with all proceeds benefiting efforts to combat food insecurity in the region.
“We’re excited to welcome the community back to the Turkey Trot—a tradition that unites families, friends, and neighbors while making a real impact on food insecurity,” said Amy Kienle, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh. “With exciting changes ahead for our city, coming together to support one another during this special year is something we truly treasure.”
Supporting the Fight Against Hunger
Proceeds from the Turkey Trot benefit the YMCA food pantry programs and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. Since March 2020, the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh has distributed approximately 120 tons of food to local neighborhoods—underscoring its ongoing commitment to addressing food insecurity through strong community partnerships.
Race Perks and Participation Options
All participants will receive a long-sleeve hooded shirt and may add a commemorative medal during registration. Runners who take on the “Double Gobble” challenge—completing both the 5-mile and 5K events—will earn a special gift.
Can’t make it in person? A virtual option is available, allowing participants to join the tradition from anywhere.
Last year, the event welcomed more than 7,500 participants from 42 states plus Canada and the United Kingdom. This year, organizers expect over 8,000 participants and are encouraging even more families to get moving by offering half-price registration for ages 5 to 18. Children under four can register for free.
“We’re thrilled to partner once again with the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh to deliver this beloved holiday tradition,” said Troy Schooley, CEO of P3R. “It’s the perfect way to start Thanksgiving—with movement, family, and community impact.”
