Pacific Beach Half Marathon Draws Record Field, Expands to Two Days

October 10, 2025

Thousands take to San Diego’s oceanfront as the city’s premier fall running event expands into a two-day half marathon weekend

San Diego, Calif. (October 10, 2025) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – A record field of over 5,000 entrants took to the oceanfront streets of San Diego last weekend for the annual Pacific Beach Half Marathon and 5K. The event expanded to two days for the first time, with the 5K hosted on Saturday in partnership with the Pacific Beachfest community festival, followed by Sunday’s half marathon featuring a scenic 13.1-mile course around Mission Bay.

“In just three years since we added the 13.1-mile distance, the Pacific Beach Half Marathon has quickly become one of our most popular events,” said Eric Marenburg, San Diego Running Co.’s chief running officer and co-founder. “The enthusiasm this year demonstrates not only the potential for continued growth, but also the opportunity for partners to connect with a young, active, and affluent audience that reflects Southern California’s fitness culture.”

More than 3,000 athletes completed the half marathon, reflecting 25% year-over-year growth. Runners from 41 states and 17 countries traveled to San Diego for the event, while more than 250 participants completed the “Surfside Double Shot Challenge” by finishing both races. The event also raised funds for Discover Pacific Beach, the nonprofit that organizes Pacific Beachfest and supports local businesses.

“We’re proud to deliver an event that showcases the Pacific Beach community, supports local businesses, and brings people together through running,” added Marenburg.

San Diego Running Company also produces several of the region’s most celebrated races, including the upcoming O’side Turkey Trot on November 27, 2025, and the San Diego Santa Run on December 13, 2025, both of which attract tens of thousands of participants and highlight the region’s active and family-friendly lifestyle.

The Pacific Beach Half Marathon & 5K is scheduled to return October 3–4, 2026, with registration now open at www.SanDiegoRunningCo.com.
