Over 1,000 Legacy Runners Returning for the 15th Annual GOVX San Diego Half Marathon & 5K

February 5, 2026

168 of the legacy runners have participated in the race every year since its inception

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (February 5, 2026) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ — The GOVX San Diego Half Marathon & 5K is returning on March 22, expecting to attract nearly 6,000 runners from around the nation and world. Over 1,000 runners in this field are members of the Half Marathon Legacy Program, which is made up of GOVX San Diego Half Marathon participants who have completed the event multiple years in a row. Runners who participate in the half marathon distance for consecutive years are automatically in the Legacy Program. Each consecutive year, participants are rewarded with a new Legacy item, including branded shirts, jackets, hats, backpacks and more to show off their continued commitment. Participants are also provided exclusive access to the Legacy Zone at the finish line festival. Registration for the 2026 event is currently open.

In honor of the event’s 15th anniversary, In Motion Events has introduced the “Legacy Legend” to recognize participants who are completing their 15th consecutive GOVX San Diego Half Marathon. After crossing the finish line, these 15-year long legacy runners will receive a commemorative Legacy Legend jacket. Legacy Legend members will also receive a special Legacy Legend designation on their race shirt and bib at all future consecutive races to mark their continued accomplishments.

“The loyalty program was created as a way to honor and recognize the dedicated runners that show up year after year,” said Christine Adams, In Motion Events CEO. “It’s been amazing to see just how much the program resonates with our runners, and it is a great way to reward their loyalty and ensure we see their familiar faces year after year, which makes it even more special a race.”

The 15th annual half marathon race will take runners on its infamous course through five miles of waterfront, four historic communities, three parks, two miles of downtown streets and finish in the historic Gaslamp Quarter. The 5K is a flat and fast course all in downtown San Diego. Participant perks for this year’s event include a technical fabric short-sleeve shirt, a custom finisher medal, a souvenir reusable grocery bag, a one-day pass to the invite-only Carlsbad Columbia Sportswear Employee Store and many additional freebies at the runner’s expo ahead of race day and finish festival post-race.

There will also be hundreds of runners working towards their SoCal Triple Crown medal at this year’s event. The GOVX San Diego Half Marathon & 5K is the second race of the In Motion Events’ SoCal Triple Crown race series, which kicks off in January with the Carlsbad Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K, then wraps up in August with the America’s Finest City Half Marathon & 5K. This trio offers a variety of courses and scenery throughout San Diego County, providing athletes with a fun and unique running experience in distinct parts of the City of San Diego and county. Athletes who participate in each race in the same calendar year, no matter the distance they participate in, are awarded a SoCal Triple Crown medal to celebrate their accomplishment of completing the race series.
