A man from the Sacramento area was arrested in the city of Monterey last weekend after allegedly threatening to shoot runners in a half marathon, according to police.

On Sunday just after 7 a.m., a man called 911 and said he was trying to sleep and spoke of “protesters” in the Del Monte neighborhood. In reality, there were people lining up for the annual Monterey Bay Half Marathon, according to police. The man allegedly told the dispatcher he had an AR-style rifle and that he was on Park Avenue and about to walk down there and shoot the people. He then hung up.

According to police, the dispatcher and officers tried to call back the man, he did not answer his phone. kron4
