September 18, 2025

Riders will tackle the hardest race of the GFNY USA calendar

New York City (September 18, 2025) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The first edition of the Michelob Ultra GFNY Pittsburgh-Monroeville will take place this Sunday, September 21, marking the arrival of GFNY to Western Pennsylvania. The challenging long course spans 79.9 miles with 8701 feet of climbing, making it the toughest GFNY race in the United States.

We are honored to host GFNY, a new and exciting event for our area!” said Amy Capcara, Director of Sales at Visit Monroeville. “Pittsburgh is full of avid cyclists, and our terrain is not for the faint of heart. Monroeville looks forward to welcoming fellow cyclists from all over the world to our suburbs. Best of luck to all participants on this hilly but beautifully scenic 80-mile course.”

Jim Britt, Vice President of Sports Events at SportsPITTSBURGH, adds “We’re thrilled to welcome this new international event to Pittsburgh and Monroeville. This is a great opportunity to showcase our city to professional and amateur cyclists alike. SportsPITTSBURGH is excited to play a role in supporting its success, while highlighting the power of sports in driving visitors, economic impact, and community pride.

Race festivities will begin on Friday at CCAC Boyce Campus, which will serve as the central hub for all pre-race activities, including the GFNY Expo and social events. Riders and fans can enjoy a vibrant weekend atmosphere leading up to race day.

Highlights include the GFNY Pittsburgh-Monroeville Group Rides on Friday and Saturday, offering athletes a chance to loosen their legs and connect with fellow participants before taking on Sunday’s race.

Cycling – Pro Racing

At Gran Premio New York City, professional teams race the same course as riders at the Michelob ULTRA GFNY World Championship NYC – but with a 10-minute head start. The third edition will be held on May 17, 2026.

Adding a women’s pro race would elevate the event further. The proposed format would have women starting 45 minutes ahead of the men’s pro race, giving them their own stage. However, the extended road closures required for this addition increase costs by $100,000.

For those interested in supporting women’s racing, GFNY is inviting companies and organizations to help sponsor this important addition. Contact GFNY to discuss partnership opportunities.
