Inaugural 2025 TRITON CHAMPIONSHIP hailed as huge success

Portugal (Monday 27th October 2025) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – TRITON, the new innovative global triathlon series, successfully delivered its inaugural World Final in the beautiful City of Portimão in the Algarve, Portugal this past weekend on October 24th, 25th and 26th 2025.
The inaugural CHAMPIONSHIP event was hosted in the TRITON 3 format – a stage like triathlon offering a choice of 3 distances and taking place across 3 consecutive days with the swim taking place on Friday afternoon, the bike on Saturday morning and the run on Sunday morning.
The SPRINT distance event covered a 1 km swim, 36 km bike and a 7km run, the MIDDLE distance event covered a 2 km swim, 72 km bike and a 14 km run and the LONG distance event covered a 3km swim, 108 km bike and a 21 km run.
The 3 distances allow athletes that prefer shorter or longer distances to co-experience the event together and targets a larger audience offering the opportunity for more athletes to experience the thrill of a World Championship event.
Six competitions were held over the weekend. The men and women’s CHAMPIONSHIP across the 3 distances plus a corporate race and a kids and family promotional event.
Participants from 17 nations attended, with winners coming from Portugal, Brazil, Spain and the United Kingdom.
Champions of the SPRINT event were Portugal’s Salomao Savelenko (Men) and Margarida Passos (Women), both local triathlon stars, in a time of 1.28.43 and 1.42.47 respectively.
Brazil delivered both Champions of the MIDDLE event with Marcos Salamonde winning the men’s race and Carla Abrunhosa the women’s race in 3.25.38 and 4.03.40 respectively.
Champions of the LONG event were Spain’s Juan Jimenez (Men) and United Kingdom’s Natalie Duncombe (Women) in 5.36.36 and 6.19.55 respectively.
The winning team in the corporate event was IP Power from Faro in Portugal.
The weekend’s finale was the coronation of the GLOBAL RAKING winners across all 3 distances, for both women and men. The GLOBAL RANKING is the sum of points athletes accumulate during the season by participating in official TRITON qualifying races, with the finals being the last stage of the competition and the stage that offers the most points.
Heading the GLOBAL RANKING SERIES LEADERBOARD for the SPRINT event is Russian’s Aleksandr Tretiakov (Men) and Brazil’s Brunna Dias LIma (Women)
Heading the GLOBAL RANKING SERIES LEADERBOARD for the MIDDLE event is Spain’s Ivan Munoz (Men) and Portugal’s Beatriz Passos (Women)
Heading the GLOBAL RAKING SERIES LEADERBOARD for the LONG event is Brazil’s Arthur Werneck (Men) and Ukraine’s Kravets Ganna (Women)
The inaugural Triton CHAMPIONSHIP race in Portimao TRITON concludes a busy and successful season and the 2026 calendar and next CHAMPIONSHIP destination will be announced in November.
