How Jenny Fletcher’s Airplane Bike Transit Nightmare was Saved by Bike Insurance

September 11, 2025

"My BikeInsure claim was as simple as 1) I submitted, 2) They accepted, 3) I got paid!"

Dallas, Texas – September 11, 2025 /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ BikeInsure, the Official Bike Insurance of USA Cycling and USA Triathlon, is thrilled to announce that Jenny Fletcher, a former professional triathlete and model now coaching and participating in cycling events as an age-grouper, has joined the company as a brand ambassador. Jenny, a cyclist who rides Road, TT, and Gravel bicycles, will play a crucial role in raising awareness about the essential need for bike insurance within various cycling communities in the United States.

“It has been over ten years since I first became a BikeInsure Ambassador and customer,” said Jenny Fletcher. “Back in March 2015, as a professional triathlete, I valued the peace of mind that came with having bike insurance — something I fortunately never had to use, as I didn’t experience any cycling accidents or have my bikes stolen. I love riding but have always worried about the cost of my bikes in case of a crash or, even worse, theft!

Ten years later, I have re-signed with BikeInsure as a Bike Insurance Ambassador once again. Currently, I work as a coach at ENDUR3 Athletic in Texas, and I continue to ride regularly. I still love triathlons, but I have also developed a passion for gravel riding. Recently, I experienced a moment of irony while visiting family in Canada. During my trip, I participated in both Ironman 70.3 Calgary and also enjoyed riding my gravel bike. I realized that my two most recent bikes did not have bike insurance. Fortunately, it only took me two minutes to sign up using my iPhone before I rode in Canada for coverage on both my Trek Speed Concept TT bike and my Chapter2 gravel bike. Despite some bad weather, I was thrilled to finish the triathlon race and my gravel rides without issue.

Afterward, I packed both bikes into the Scion bike bags that have protected them for years and traveled from Calgary, Canada, back to my home in the U.S. via American Airlines. Unfortunately, upon my arrival home, I discovered that TSA or American Airlines had cracked my CHAPTER2 frame during transit. When I contacted American Airlines about the damage, they refused to take responsibility.

HOW DOES A BIKEINSURE CLAIM WORK?

  1. I reached out to BikeInsure in distress and quickly received instructions on how to file a claim.
  2. I took my damaged bike to my favorite bike shop and obtained a written estimate.
  3. Using my iPhone, I took several clear photos of the cracked bike frame.
  4. Next, I visited BikeInsure.com, clicked the button to file a claim, and completed the claims form. I submitted the form along with the written estimate and photos.
  5. The claims administrator contacted me to confirm that my claim submission was complete and that the bike shop would be contacted to verify a few details, ensuring the claim was processed accurately.
  6. I was later informed that a check to replace my CHAPTER2 frame was on the way. I received the check within a week of my flight landing in Dallas.

My BikeInsure claim was as simple as 1) I submitted, 2) They accepted, 3) I got paid! It was handled very well! The unexpected part was that I signed up for BikeInsure because I was concerned about my bikes being involved in an accident or getting stolen. However, just a week after starting my latest policy, the bike insurance transit feature saved me $3,196. I only had to pay a small deductible!”

Buzzy Cohn, CEO of BikeInsure, stated, “We are honored that Jenny has chosen to be a BikeInsure ambassador once again. Although her transit airline mishap that damaged her bike frame was unfortunate, it allowed her to experience firsthand how each claim is handled at BikeInsure. Unlike larger insurance companies such as State Farm, Allstate, or Nationwide, BikeInsure does not allocate a budget for paying ambassadors large sums from customer premiums to endorse our insurance products. Instead, we are fortunate to have uniquely special athletes who believe in the BikeInsure brand and pay to secure our bike insurance product, ‘insuring’ their bikes are protected against financial risks associated with riding, transit, and theft.”

For each enrollment through Jenny’s ENDUR3insure.com sign-up page, a $5 donation will be made to NICA (The National Interscholastic Cycling Association), which empowers youth to become the best versions of themselves, both on and off the bike. NICA promotes the idea that having more kids on bikes can make the world a better place.
