Fueled by Unmatched Community Support, the 25th Anniversary Harpoon 5-Miler Powered by Needham Bank Sells Out in Just Three Days

February 9, 2026

The 25th Annual Harpoon 5-Miler Powered by Needham Bank is officially SOLD OUT with 4,500 runners — New England is gearing up for an era-defining Saturday in the Seaport that will unite runners, beer lovers, and the ALS community.

BOSTON, MA /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The 2026 Harpoon 5-Miler powered by Needham Bank is officially sold out. In a remarkable show of enthusiasm and community spirit, all race entries for the event’s 25th anniversary edition were claimed in just three days, marking one of the fastest sellouts in race history — and the quickest since the event returned to the streets of Boston post-COVID.

Now celebrating a quarter-century as one of Boston’s most beloved road races, the Harpoon 5-Miler continues to bring runners and supporters together for an unforgettable day of fitness, fun, and giving back.

“This incredible response speaks volumes about the Harpoon 5-Miler community,” said Charles Storey, Harpoon Race Director. “Year after year, participants show up not only for the race itself, but to support each other, celebrate Boston, and be part of something bigger. To see the 25th anniversary edition sell out so quickly is truly a reflection of the community’s love for this event and our shared mission to raise critical funds for the cure and care of ALS.”

The Harpoon 5-Miler has become a tradition for thousands, combining an iconic Seaport course with the festive post-race celebration that has made the event a kickoff-to-summer staple in Boston. This rapid sellout underscores the deep connection participants feel to the race — and the enduring support of the New England running community.

For its 25th anniversary, the Harpoon 5-Miler will once again feature its signature route across the Summer Street Bridge, linking Boston’s Seaport with South Boston. The flat, fast course delivers striking harbor and skyline views, setting the stage for a milestone celebration powered by the energy of a sold-out field.

Spectators play a defining role in the Harpoon 5-Miler experience, and organizers encourage the broader community to line the Seaport sidewalks and cheer on runners throughout race day. Runners and supporters will then reunite at the finish line for the signature post-race anniversary celebration and after party, featuring music, dancing, and fresh Harpoon beer. More than just a celebration, the post-race party brings runners and spectators together in an extended show of support for the ALS community, keeping the Harpoon 5-Miler spirit going all day long.

With $3.1 million raised to date in support of ALS research and care, Boston’s commitment to giving back remains at the heart of the event. The race benefits The Angel Fund for ALS Research and the Peter Frates ALS Foundation.

“Being part of the 25th Annual Harpoon 5-Miler allows us to turn community energy into real impact,” said Michael Pitt, Executive Director of the Peter Frates ALS Foundation. “Every dollar raised and every runner crossing the finish line helps families affected by ALS and advances life-changing research.”

Race organizers encourage those who missed registration to stay tuned for updates, volunteer opportunities, and additional ways to join the celebration on race day. The journey to race weekend will also include community runs and lead-up events ahead of race day on Saturday, May 16.
