The award recognizes the organization's dedication to preventing sudden death in sport
FALMOUTH, Mass. (June 27, 2025) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Falmouth Road Race, Inc., the nonprofit behind the ASICS Falmouth Road Race, has been presented with the 2025 Rachael Oats Service to Korey Stringer Institute Award, an award that recognizes individuals who tirelessly and wholeheartedly devote themselves and their work to preventing sudden death in sport.
Falmouth Road Race, Inc. has partnered with the Korey Stringer Institute (KSI) through the years to support their research at their annual summer road race, the ASICS Falmouth Road Race. This unique partnership has afforded students and senior researchers alike the experience of field research in thermal stress, hydration, wearable devices, new technologies and elite athlete performance. Some of the most notable research in exertional heat stroke prevention and treatment has been conducted at the ASICS Falmouth Road Race. A total of 27 research articles have been published based on data collected at the ASICS Falmouth Road Race. By endorsing KSI’s field research, Falmouth Road Race, Inc. has promoted wellness and optimized safety not only for the runners at their own race day, but for any athlete, warfighter, or laborer active in the heat.
“The ASICS Falmouth Road Race is a historical and iconic event that is truly curated for the runner’s experience. With that being said, the organizers behind the race are also well aware that the event annually takes place in the summer, and part of providing a great runner’s experience is ensuring that the summer weather does not harm participants’ overall health on race day,” said Dr. John Jardine, medical director of the ASICS Falmouth Road Race. “We’ve worked hard over the years to make sure we are well equipped for race day heat-related illnesses, and are proud to have an event that is providing valuable data to keep runners and other personnel physically safe.”
The Falmouth Road Race was established in 1973 and has become one of the premier running events of the summer season. Each year, the race draws an international field of Olympians, elite athletes and recreational runners to enjoy the iconic 7-mile seaside course. Race weekend also features a variety of other events. The invitational Falmouth Track Festival, presented by ASICS, will welcome elite milers on Friday, Aug. 15, and features the 14th annual Tommy Cochary High School Mile for local high school athletes. The following day, the SBLI Family Fun Run will host kids ages 2-12 to compete in their own races, while also providing an abundance of booths and activities for all to enjoy. Throughout the weekend, the Health & Fitness Expo will be taking place, welcoming over 20,000 visitors to browse the various booths featuring the latest in running, fitness and uniquely Cape Cod items.
