Pittsburgh’s fastest mile heats up opening day of Picklesburgh with a $25,700 prize purse on the line plus a $1,000 bonus chase
PITTSBURGH, PA (July 3, 2025) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – As Picklesburgh kicks off downtown, P3R is bringing the flavor to the North Shore with a new twist on the Elite Mile at the 2025 America’s Mile presented by VisitPITTSBURGH: “The Real Dill Chase.” Inspired by the iconic pickle festival taking place just across the river on the 6th and 7th Street Bridges, this exciting spin on the Elite races will pit top male and female runners against each other in a head-to-head battle to the finish.
To create a dramatic finish-line duel, the women’s elite field will receive a head start based on projected winning times. The men’s field will chase them down the fast North Shore course, culminating in an electrifying sprint to the finish line in front of Acrisure Stadium. With thousands of spectators expected nearby for the opening day of Picklesburgh, the atmosphere will be buzzing with excitement. The first runner—male or female—to cross the finish line will earn a $1,000 winner-take-all bonus.
In addition to “The Real Dill Chase” bonus, a $25,700 prize purse will be awarded, including a $4,000 top prize for the first male and female finishers in their respective divisions. Spectators can catch all the action along East and West General Robinson Street or swing by after enjoying the Picklesburgh festivities—making for a uniquely Pittsburgh experience filled with speed and signature flair. Fans can also watch the Elite Mile live on P3R’s Instagram.
Adding even more excitement, P3R is bringing back the Elite Running Derby. Every registered participant—whether racing in person or virtually—will be randomly paired with one of the elite athletes. If your assigned elite wins their race, you’ll win a hat from Brooks Running.
“The ‘Real Dill Chase’ adds an exciting twist to the Elite Mile, especially with the energy of Picklesburgh just across the river,” said Troy Schooley, P3R CEO. “We’re creating a finish-line showdown that spectators won’t want to miss—whether they’re on the course, celebrating downtown, or watching live online.”
The Elite Mile will close out America’s Mile, returning to Pittsburgh’s North Shore on Friday, July 11. The event welcomes runners of all ages and abilities, including the MOVE Mile presented by VisitPITTSBURGH, the Heroes Mile powered by Special Olympics Pennsylvania, the Kids of STEEL Mile presented by U. S. Steel, the Masters Mile presented by UPMC Health Plan, the Unstoppable Mile presented by Brooks, and the Run Varsity Mile presented by Brooks Future Run. More than 2,000 participants are expected.
