Diplo’s Run Club Caps National Tour With Good Times and Fast Times at High-Energy Phoenix 5K

January 25, 2026

A sold-out field of 9,000 runners turned out to race alongside the Grammy Award–winning DJ at tour finale

PHOENIX, AZ – January 25, 2026 /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – More than 9,000 runners and music fans gathered Saturday morning at Margaret T. Hance Park for the Phoenix debut of Diplo’s Run Club, closing out the national 5K and mini music-festival series with record performances, cool desert weather and a celebration blending fitness, community and music.

The event featured an urban 3.1-mile run through central Phoenix followed by a post-race concert headlined by Grammy-winning DJ and producer Diplo, who ran the race before taking the stage. The Phoenix stop marked the final tour date of Diplo’s Run Club for the 2025-26 season.

“It’s a pretty easy equation,” Diplo said after the race. “If you’ve ever gone out dancing or raving, you look at your steps and realize you’ve basically been on a treadmill for four to six hours. This just focuses that energy. You’re concentrating on your exercise, but you’re doing it as part of a community.”

Diplo said the concept builds on the strong run-club culture already thriving across the country.

“Every city we go to already has 10 or 20 run clubs, L.A. probably has over 100,” he said. “People are already in this culture. I’m just happy to put a party around it, have fun afterward, and help people meet each other.”

Phoenix delivered both depth and speed on the course. Ruairi Moynihan of Flagstaff, Arizona, won the men’s race in 15:16, the fastest winning time recorded across the 8-event series. Moynihan, who has a collegiate middle-distance background and now competes in ultrarunning, said the format drew him in.

“Combining a 5K with an EDM concert, it’s a fun combo,” said Moynihan, a former 1,500-meter runner at St. John’s University. “You put in the work first, then the party vibes start. It lives up to the name.”

The women’s race was won by Tara Dower, one of the world’s top ultrarunners and an Altra-sponsord athlete, who crossed the line in 18 minutes, 10 seconds after arriving in Phoenix late the night before.

“I got in at 12:30 a.m. and went to bed at 2,” Dower said with a laugh. “I wasn’t planning to race competitively – I just wanted to go out and have fun. But it felt really good, and I ended up running a personal best.”

Dower described the atmosphere as unlike a traditional road race.

“It’s very social, very hype, almost overstimulating, but in a good way,” she said. “That’s what made it fun.”

In partnership with PLUS1, a nonprofit that helps artists and brands maximize social impact, Diplo’s Run Club contributes a portion of proceeds from each tour stop to support youth in high-need communities. Funds raised in Phoenix will benefit Arizona youth through national nonprofit Good Sports, providing new sports equipment, apparel and footwear.

Throughout the morning, runners of all abilities shared the course, as costumes, themed outfits and run-club kits filled the park for a finish-line celebration that doubled as a mini music festival. British DJ Will Clarke opened the post-race party before Diplo took the stage, with the festivities also featuring a surprise onstage gender reveal (it’s a boy!) The event was livestreamed globally on Major Lazer’s Twitch channel, and fans followed along in real time through a first-of-its-kind partnership with Polymarket, which allowed viewers to place wagers on Diplo’s finishing time.

“This might be the biggest run club Arizona’s seen,” Diplo added. “There are a lot of local run groups here, but the goal is to bring everyone together from across the area and help people meet new faces. That’s the main thing. You show up, work hard and have fun. That’s what this is all about.”
