The Great Floridian Unveils a Unique and Challenging Race Format:

August 27, 2025

The Triple Triathlon Challenge

Clermont, FL (August 27, 2025) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ — The organizers of the legendary Great Floridian Triathlon are proud to announce the debut of a bold new endurance event: the Great Floridian Triple Triathlon Challenge.

This innovative race format dares athletes to complete three consecutive sprint triathlons, non-stop. Each sprint features a 0.25-mile swim, 8.2-mile bike, and 2-mile run. Stacked together, competitors will cover a combined 0.75 miles in the water, 24.6 miles on the bike, and 6 miles on the run — all under a single timing clock.

Unlike traditional triathlons, the challenge lies not just in the distance, but in the repeatability and strategy. Athletes may take short breaks between sprints, but the official race clock never stops. Time spent between triathlons will be recorded as “Race-to-Race Transition”, making efficient pacing and recovery essential.

Awards will be determined by each athlete’s total elapsed time, with splits provided for every sprint leg.

“We wanted to create a format that’s truly unique and challenging — something that pushes triathletes out of their comfort zone,” said Fred Sommer, Race Director of the Great Floridian. “Completing one sprint triathlon is an accomplishment. Completing three, back-to-back, without stopping? That’s a whole new level of endurance and grit.”

The Great Floridian Triple Triathlon Challenge will take place on Sunday, October 19, 2025 in Clermont, Florida, known worldwide as “The World Triathlon Destination” for its rich 43 year history of triathlons, and the challenging terrain and vibrant multisport community.

The event is part of the AdventHealth Great Floridian Endurance Festival, which also features the GFT Sprint Triathlon, Duathlon, Aquabike, Relay, Aquathlon, 15K Run, and 5K Run/Walk. The festival serves as the championship event for the 2025 Clermont Running & Triathlon Series and is the season finale for triathlon in Clermont.

Registration is now open, with limited spots available for the inaugural Triple Triathlon Challenge.
