Solidifying its role as a premier platform for athletic excellence and social impact, this year’s triathlon featured enhanced race experiences, expanded community programming, and record-setting corporate engagement from 23 leading companies
LONG BEACH, CA (August 7, 2025) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – On July 20, 2025, the Long Beach Legacy Triathlon By Supertri, Southern California’s premier athletic event, returned to the shores with a vibrant celebration of sport, community, and philanthropy. By Supertri is the world’s biggest brand for short-endurance triathlon events, sparking ambition in all who line-up from seasoned amateurs to first-timers and corporate teams. Known for its fun, fast, and beginner-friendly atmosphere, the triathlon welcomed athletes of all levels to compete in Sprint Distance, Olympic Distance, and the Corporate Challenge, either individually or as part of a relay team.
This year’s event once again supported Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), benefiting its Pediatric Cancer Research Program. The triathlon exceeded its fundraising goal, raising $715,000 and bringing the total raised to date to over $19 million. Among the participants was James F. Amatruda, M.D., Ph.D., Director of CHLA’s Cancer and Blood Disease Institute (CBDI), who raced to raise awareness and critical funds for pediatric cancer research. Dr. Amatruda leads clinical care, research, and education programs in pediatric hematology, oncology, and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy.
“The 2025 Long Beach Legacy Triathlon By Supertri is a critical fundraiser to support groundbreaking pediatric cancer research in the Cancer and Blood Disease Institute at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles,” stated James Amatruda, MD, PhD, Director, Cancer and Blood Disease Institute, Alfred E. Mann Family Foundation Chair in Cancer Research, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. “With more than $19 million raised through annual triathlons since 2007, every participant helps propel our efforts to develop safer and more effective cancer therapies and get the right treatment to children in need. I am thrilled to be part of the CHLA Triathlon Team this year, and we thank you for joining us in this exciting event.”
The Corporate Challenge saw participation from 21 teams and over 570 athletes, representing leading companies such as AEG, Amazon Studios, Ares Management, Canyon Partners, CHLA, Disney, Google, Medtronic, Netflix, Oaktree, Paramount, Skydance, SpaceX, and Warner Bros Discovery. Disney earned the Champion of Hope award in the Entertainment Industry Division for top overall fundraising, while Canyon Partners took home the Champion of Hope award in the Corporate Division and earned recognition for highest average per person fundraising. Warner Bros Discovery claimed the Tri Cup for fastest team performance. Now in Supertri’s second year in Long Beach, the Corporate Challenge increased fundraising by over 20% compared to last year.
Supertri honored Los Angeles-area firefighters by offering free race entries in recognition of their heroic efforts during recent wildfires. The triathlon also introduced a new First Timer Program; a free athlete development initiative designed to ease intimidation and build confidence for newcomers. The program included virtual educational sessions, a 12-week training plan, a private Facebook support group, race week guidance, and a dedicated swim start wave. Looking ahead, Supertri plans to expand both initiatives in the 2026 triathlon.
The weekend was packed with inclusive and family-friendly activities, including the Athletic Brewing Beer Mile, a lighthearted relay or solo challenge combining running and beer; a scenic Shake Out Run with coffee and bagels; the Splash & Dash for kids aged 6 to 15; “Ready. Set. Gold.” activities featuring Olympians; the Paratriathlon National Qualifier Series welcoming elite paratriathletes; and the Tot Trot, a joyful race for children 12 and under. Athletes also had the opportunity to compare their performance on Supertri segments, 4 km bike and 1.6 km run, against professional triathletes.
With a modified course enhancing the run and bike experience, and a growing community of supporters, the Long Beach Legacy Triathlon By Supertri continues to set the standard for inclusive, impactful, and exhilarating athletic events.
