12th Annual Coronado Turkey Trot presented by Rady Children’s Hospital Auxiliary Coronado Unit – Local Student Elizabeth Lewis Shares Her Inspiring Journey with Perthes Disease

October 27, 2025

Coronado, CA – October 27, 2025 /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The 12th Annual Coronado Turkey Trot, presented by Rady Children’s Hospital Auxiliary Coronado Unit, is set to take place on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 27, 2025, at Tidelands Park. This community-favorite 5K run/walk, which sells out every year, will raise funds for Orthopedics and Scoliosis Center at Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego.

This year’s event features Elizabeth Lewis, a high school senior from San Diego, as the official Race Ambassador. At just three years old, Elizabeth was diagnosed with Perthes Disease, a rare condition that restricts blood flow to the hip joint and can cause lasting bone damage. Over the years, she underwent five major surgeries under the expert care of Rady Children’s Hospital’s Orthopedic Department. Despite the challenges, Elizabeth’s creativity and perseverance never faltered—she adapted her favorite activities, invented new ways to play, and stayed determined through every recovery.

Today, Elizabeth is thriving—playing tennis, water polo, soccer, lacrosse, biking, running, and competing on her high school’s varsity golf team. Her journey is a testament to resilience and to the incredible care Rady Children’s provides for children facing medical challenges.

“We were so blessed to be near Rady’s. They have one of the top Pediatric Orthopedic Departments in the country. The doctors, nurses, and all of the staff helped me to endure Perthes Disease without any permanent damage. My family and I are so thankful to Rady’s for my outcome.”
