1000 Mile Ruck Across Texas

October 6, 2025

25 Miles a Day. 40 Days. Solo. Unsupported.

Texas /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – In a remarkable demonstration of human endurance and spirit, Terrence Ogden, the founder of Official Project Grit, commenced an unprecedented journey: a 1,000-mile solo ruck across the vast landscapes of Texas. Averaging 25 miles a day for 40 consecutive days, Ogden is moving fully self-supported, cowboy camping at night under the Texas sky. The journey begins at the Gulf Coast in Port Arthur and will conclude on Veterans Day at Mount Cristo Rey in El Paso. Along the way, he will summit Guadalupe Peak, the highest point in Texas, before pressing west toward the border.

This symbolic trek-from the bottom of Texas to its highest point-mirrors Ogden’s personal climb from addiction to recovery. Today, as the leader of an endurance rucking community he challenges people to push beyond comfort and discover what they are truly made of.

The expedition is being filmed by Cold Collaborative, a world-class documentary team, for a full-length film titled Built for More: 1,000 Miles Across Texas. GORUCK, the global leader in rucking, is the title sponsor of the film and partner on the five community rucks that will take place along the route.

From Rock Bottom to 1,000 Miles

Twenty-three years ago, Ogden was homeless, addicted, and hopeless. Through faith, family, and fitness, he rebuilt his life step by step. Today, he is 23 years sober, a husband, father, and the founder of Official Project Grit, a movement built on endurance rucking to challenge mediocrity, embrace difficulty, and harness the power of teamwork.

“I was a ghost with a heartbeat who didn’t think I had another chance,” said Ogden. “Now I get to show-not just for myself but for everyone carrying weight in life-that we are built for more.”

A Movement Across Texas

The 1,000 Mile Ruck isn’t just one man’s story. Along the route, Ogden will host five GORUCK × Official Project Grit community events, giving Texans the chance to shoulder weight, share miles, and experience the transformative power of hardship and teamwork.

Why It Matters

The 1,000 Mile Ruck Across Texas is more than an endurance challenge. It’s a call to action-raising awareness for mental health and recovery, reminding us that strength isn’t just for ourselves, but what we carry forward to lift others.
