April 7 race on pace to sell out at 5,000 participants
With the allure of a race that starts and finishes at Universal Studios Hollywood and a course that winds past such iconic locations as the Hollywood Bowl, Hollywood & Highland, the Chinese Theater and the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the inaugural Hollywood Half Marathon set to debut on April 7, 2012 is living up to its billing for participants to “Run with the Stars.” With more than three months to go, such celebrities as Sean Astin (star of the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy), Tara Lynch (Amazing Race), Tanna Frederick (title roles in “Irene in Time” and “Queen of the Lot”), Jessica Limpert and Ramon Medieros (Biggest Loser season 12 participants who’re engaged to be married) and John & Eileen Prudhont (Brides of Beverly Hills) among others are set to run the race.
Race organizer Ken Nwadike Jr, co-founder of Superhero Events, announced today that they are looking to attract Hollywood’s fastest celebrities by offering $1310 donations to the charities of choice to top finishing male and female celebrity runners.
The Hollywood Half Marathon will debut as an instant classic. The race has already been embraced by the running community, Hollywood business and political leaders. More than 2500 runners from 20 states and ten nations have already registered for the race, which has been promoted exclusively through social media to date. The event has attracted 12,000 + Facebook followers to date with a total reach of more than 4.9 million people. The race is capped at 5000 participants and is expected to sell out at the current rate of registration.
30-year old Nwadike, a 4:01 miler, and his wife Sabrina, also a runner, started Superhero Events to create quality events dedicated to the runner experience. “As runners ourselves, we participate in many events each month and learn from the best of them,” said Ken. “The Hollywood Half Marathon is our largest event to date and we have a lot of creative ideas we are planning to enhance the runners’ experience. We are thrilled at all of the positive responses we are receiving and enjoy interacting with participants on Facebook. There is tons of buzz about this race.”
The race will also include the Hollywood 5K/10K to benefit Beyond the Bell, Los Angeles Unified School District’s before and after school programs. A one-mile kids run is also planned.
