XTERRA Portland Reunites at Hagg Lake

HAGG LAKE, OREGON, USA /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – XTERRA Portland returned to Gaston on August 1st with 56 XTERRA World Championship qualifying positions, and youth qualification for the 2026 XTERRA Youth World Championship, both taking place in Ruidoso, New Mexico this October.

First held in 2009, XTERRA Portland developed into an annual meeting point for off-road athletes from Oregon and the surrounding western states. The location plays a large part in this history since Hagg Lake is used throughout the summer for open-water swimming, mountain biking, trail running, camping, and family recreation.

Results

The full-distance race combined a 1K swim, 27.5K mountain bike, and 8K trail run. Sean Murphree of Durango, Colorado, won the men’s race in 2:03:03. Portland’s Andrzej Stadnik followed in 2:04:25, with Dallin Geddes of Ogden, Utah, third in 2:06:35.

Auckland-born Natalie Mitchell, now based in Northern California, recorded the fastest women’s time in 2:09:51. Mitchell also won at Hagg Lake in 2024. Meghan Henry of Spokane, Washington finished in 2:24:29, followed by Reno, Nevada’s Brittany Schroeder in 2:28:10.

Eric Lagerstrom of Portland, Oregon, is also part of the event’s history. He set the XTERRA Portland course record of 1:44:29 in 2022. “This race and this venue are super close to my heart,” Lagerstrom said, who was on-site to support, but unable to take part as he didn’t make a list in the official results available on the XTERRA Portland event page.

Youth Qualifiers

Youth B 16–17 and Junior 18–19 athletes raced the 500M swim, 21K bike, and 5K run Sprint. Bend’s Jack Billowitz won the Junior male division in 1:28:22, while Portland’s Ya El Siegel won Junior female in 2:12:18. Hadiah Hallam of Gig Harbor took the Youth B female win in 2:17:35, and Paul Mather won Youth B male in 2:10:57.

The Youth A 14–15 race used the shorter 200M swim, 6K bike, and 2K run Super Sprint course. Lucas Cabrera won the male division in 35:39, and Victoria Alexandrov won the female division in 36:27.

The Hagg Lake Experience

Camping and adult and youth course pre-rides began the weekend on Friday. Saturday’s program also included a Kids Splash & Dash for children aged nine and under. Volunteers supported the courses, timing areas, aid stations and finish throughout the day.

XTERRA Portland gave families and friends a chance to reconnect with people they met through the event over the years, while newcomers were welcomed into the Northwest off-road community.
