XTERRA Lake Scanno Welcomes Back Off-road Community as Ridolfi and Ravazzolo Repeat
July 27, 2026

More than 400 athletes came to Abruzzo for three days of racing, local gatherings and activities around the heart-shaped lake and historic town of Scanno.
SCANNO, ITALY (July 27, 2026) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – XTERRA Lake Scanno returned to Abruzzo from July 24-26 to its lake, mountain trails and historic streets for the event’s 13th edition.
Riccardo Ridolfi successfully defended the men’s Full Distance title in 2:49:11, followed by François Carloni in second and Michele Rusalen in third. Francesca Ravazzolo also repeated her 2025 victory, winning the women’s race in 4:03:51 ahead of Anna Bettini and Maria Partenza. Complete results are available here.
The Full Distance combined a 1.5K swim, 30K mountain bike and 10K trail run. From the lakeshore, athletes climbed through the surrounding forest and mountains before reaching the old village, where cobbled passages, narrow streets and stone staircases brought the course directly through Scanno.
First held in 2013, XTERRA Lake Scanno has become one of the long-standing European races on the XTERRA World Tour. Its previous champions include Conrad Stoltz, Rubén Ruzafa, Maxim Chané, Alizée Paties, and Lesley Paterson.
The combination of racing, nature and local culture was recently featured by Slowtwitch. Scottish triathlete and filmmaker Paterson is a three-time XTERRA World Champion, a two-time Cross Triathlon World Champion, and the BAFTA-winning, Oscar-nominated co-screenwriter of Netflix’s All Quiet on the Western Front. Paterson described Scanno as “a true slice of culture within an epic challenge.”
That culture was the main highlight of the weekend. Residents stood beside the course as athletes passed through the old village, while local shops, cafés and restaurants welcomed visitors. Over the years, athlete photographs appear in shop windows as the event approaches, as the event serves as a staple in the town’s summer calendar.
Friday’s Sunset Run led into a welcome party and live music. The food-truck festival continued through Sunday, with Saturday’s after-race party bringing athletes, families, volunteers and residents together beside the lake. An Open Water Swim and Kids races closed the program on Sunday, with more than 130 children taking part.
XTERRA extends its sincere thanks to Regione Abruzzo, the Comune di Scanno, the event partners and every volunteer who supported the event. Special thanks also go to the local businesses and residents of Scanno who opened their doors and welcomed athletes and their families.
